Summer Update:
I hope everyone is having a fun, productive summer; mine has been interesting to say the least!
So here is a quick update on the Gulf Oil Spill, my heart goes out to all people in the Gulf. Urbansteez is in full support of the cleanup efforts and bringing justice to those effected by this atrocity.

Oil Slick
Happy Summer everyone! It has been a long while since the last post but I'm BACK for GOOD.
So lets right into it! By now we all know that the Deepwater Horizon oil platform in the Gulf of Mexico exploded, sank, resulted in 11 deaths and has caused the largest environmental disaster in US history. With the influx of shitty mainstream media coverage that's probably all most of us know, let me break it down!

Van Jones Resignation
On Sunday September 6, Van Jones resigned from his position as “Green Jobs Czar.” A sad day for all advocates of the Green Jobs movement. For those who are not familiar with Jones, he is an environmental advocate, author and civil rights activist and lawyer. To make a long story short Van Jones has dedicated his life to fighting for justice. Click on his name above to learn more about his life and career. I think he is Super interesting!
Like most activist he has been viewed as radical, leftist, and even a communist or Marxist, just absurd. What's wrong with being radical?! Does everyone have to follow the so-called norm? I don't think so! But unfortunately too many people in this country disagree with me.

What's up everyone I'm BACK with Greener and Doper articles and advice! A somber day in the heart of every American, we all probably remember where we were on 9-11-2001 during the tragedy at the WTC and Pentagon. I was in Honors Physics class in high school when it all happened. My entire class was glued to the TV, I was stunned, upset, and in utter disbelief.
President Obama has called September 11, 2009 a Day of Service. It is a perfect time for all of you Green Advocates out there to get involved. Green for All has a DOPE program called Green the Block 9/11/2009. You can log on to their website and find events and activities in your hood. http://service.greentheblock.net/ Even if you are dedicating one hour of time it will make a HUGE difference.
Where were you Sept 11, 2001?? Let's all support and remember together it changed the way we will live forever. Tweet me @Chelsgoesgreen
Keep on the look out for new articles and topics!!

We all know that on June 25th Michael Jackson aka “The King of Pop” passed away from cardiac arrest. I was devastated and didn't believe it at first. Like many 80's babies I was a HUGE MJ fan, actually he was my first crush... not ashamed to admit it! What more could a 5 year old want lol. So I'm here not to just proclaim my love for Mike but to let you all know he was more than an entertainer, he was a humanitarian, an environmentalist before it even became popular. MJ was seriously like Al Gore on steroids. Do any of yall remember the video to “Earth Song”? The single was never released in the U.S. but it became a chart topper in the U.K. The best way to explain the song and MJ's commitment to the earth are in his own words. This is what he said himself of the song:

Eco-tip of the Day
Explore and use online tools such as Microsoft Hohm and Google PowerMeter.
-
Microsoft Hohm is a new online application that enables consumers like you or I to better understand our energy use. The tool also makes recommendations that may help you save money; these days you know we all need it!
-
Google PowerMeter will be rolled out later this year, something I'm VERY excited about!. It is an application that shows consumers their electricity consumption in a Google gadget. Read more about it below and keep on the look-out.
Once we are able to see our electricity in a detailed way it is going to be easy to cut back. Scaling back 10% of our normal use will make a huge difference.
Stay Fresh, Stay Green
