| Unsigned Hype Ahmaad |
![]() Whoever told you that you would amount to nothing? Whoever told you that you should stop playing yourself? Whoever told you that you can't do aNYthing? Maybe a lot of people but none has endured more than an r&b singer from Brooklyn named AHMAAD. Born AHMAAD Harris on December 21,1988 in Brooklyn, NY, this child has always had a love for music. As he got older he would hone his craft by writing songs in his spare time about life and relationships. As he grew older AHMAAD got a serious interest in singing, and at the urging of his friends Rashad Smith, and Jean Armand he decided to try and make a career out of it. The road was hard at first as a lot of people did not believe in him, maNY people telling him he had no chance to make it. Even at a try-out for Making the Band 4, AHMAAD was told by one of the judges to stop playing himself. It was then that he was introduced to Money Mark(a producer from the Bronx) by a friend from work. Money Mark told AHMAAD he had a long way to go as far as music but had something special inside. Through drive, determination and hard work AHMAAD worked on his voice, and on his writing skills. He then cut his first single HOMIE which was a spin on Musiq Soulchild's BUDDY. The song caught a little buzz on myspace and even though it wasn't his best, it got people to listen. AHMAAD then went on to link up with another engineer from Brooklyn by the name of Markiss. AHMAAD then went on to drop one of his hottest singles titled "Baby Be Mine". The song was a myspace sensation and changed everyone's perspective of his music. "I wrote Baby Be Mine for a girl I was really diggin', I didnt even get the girl but it was just a real turning point in my life" Now at this point in time AHMAAD is working very hard and has dropped his debut mixtape entitled "I Can Do aNYthing" hosted by DJ E.Nyce. With a growing buzz and fan base AHMAAD is ready to take the world by storm in 2009. "I feel my style is of the young, fly and sexy because it's something that people of all ages can get into especially the younger crowd, also I'm all about the feel-good music, which puts everybody in a good mood especially me" With a vocal talent reminiscent of a young "Michael Jackson", smooth swagger of an r&b "Fabolous", and writing skills of a street version of "The-Dream" AHMAAD is truly a star in the making. The possibilities are endless for this young man and with the streets of NY behind him, AHMAAD is ready to become a worldwide phenomenon. "ALWAYS REMEMBER YOU CAN DO ANYTHING BECAUSE IT'S A-NY-THING"
AHMAAD is the name, and I'm from BROOKLYNNNNNN,NYC lol and Im reppin that area of downtown Brooklyn on the Fort Greene lean lol. Urbansteez.com: How did you come up with your name? Ahmaad: Yea man, AHMAAD is my real name and I decided to use that as my stage name, I went through many different names like Chorus and Lil Ace and all that until my homeboy was like just go with ya own name because it would stand out better so Im like you right and I just went with it Urbansteez.com: How long have you been pursuing a career in the music industry? Ahmaad: I've been pursuing music since about the age of 16, like my last year of high school. I used to rap since I was 12 but I changed up to r&b when I found out I could sing. Im 19 now so I say been grindin for a good 4 years now but it was only recently when things started to happen for me Urbansteez.com: That's wassup!! What were you into before pursuing a career in music? Ahmaad: I was really into movies like directing or acting. I was always fascinated with movies like Above the Rim, Do the Right Thing, Belly, and Juice (Bishop was my nigga lol) but yeah when Spike Lee was putting it down back in the 90's and the stories he told made me want to do film directing or acting. Also Tupac Shakur was always one of my favorite actors so I would look at that screen and say damn I wanna be up there too. So there always was a love there for the big screen Urbansteez.com: As an artist how would you describe your sound and why? Ahmaad: As a artist I would describe my sound as young, fly and sexy. The reason why is because I'm 19 and I like to have fun you know the partying, drinking, girls and all that and that basically is the young and fly side of the me but there is also a side of me that's more sexy I would say or more mature. That side basically talks about subjects such love, pain and sex so you can say people of all ages can relate to my music because you can get all of these subjects from me. My first mixtape "I Can Do aNYthing" shows what I mean Urbansteez.com: Okay, I can dig that! If you had your pick which label to be signed to, which label would it be and why? Ahmaad: My pick would probably be either Def Jam, Atlantic, Koch, or Bad Boy eventhough you hear the stories about Puff lol. The reasons for all of them would be that they seem to have a good reputation with their artists and they are known for putting out good music especially r&b. But in the end I would like to go somewhere that sees my vision and longevity because I plan to be around for a loooooong time lol. Urbansteez.com: Who in your future would you want to collaborate with and why? Ahmaad: Man, there are so many people but the one's I would want to work with the most on the rap side would be NAS because he has been my favorite music artist since I first started listening to music, FABOLOUS because we both from Brooklyn and we got a similar fly swagger and LUPE FIASCO 'cuz people say we look alike lol nah he's a dope artist. On the r&b side I would love to work with The-Dream, NeYo, Brian Michael Cox, Ryan Leslie, and Musiq Soulchild because I think we would put together the hottest r&b album of all time and thats real talk New York. Urbansteez.com: Yea you named some talented cats, I can see that in the future for you! What are you working on now, and when can we expect to hear more of you? Ahmaad: Right now I'm working on alot of original music, hooking up wit some dope producers from Brooklyn called "The Beatbangghaz" they did some stuff from Trey Songz and also I'm working with another producer from Canada named "T-Nyce", trust me there is some heat coming lol . Overall, Im doing this for my debut independant album to be released on Itunes called "N.Y. State of Love" (we might change the title lol). This should be released early next year so look out for that. I'm also dropping another mixtape around the Christmas season so that should be a real good look for me. Urbansteez.com: What do you think is about the music game today? Ahmaad: The music game today is all about adaptation because what I get from it is that alot of cats wasn't ready for how the game is that's why you hear alot of dudes especially older cats, saying that the music game is dead. But come on man, it's not dead, it's gone digital and if you can't hustle these blogs, Myspace, YouTube and all these other hot websites such as urbansteez.com and have a huge internet buzz then you're fucked. You have to play the game in order to change it and alot of us younger dudes is hustling the internet for all it's worth amd to be honest it's giving guys a whole lot more of an oppurtunity to shine. However music in N.Y. has suffered tremendously, where it's beginning to feel like we are getting pushed on the shelf and the industry needs to start changing that because the talent is there and we need to bring it back to the glory days of the 80s and 90s. But I always believe that real music will always prevail and in the long run I think the music game will be just fine, especially when I make my mark. Urbansteez.com: I see.... What will you do with your first royalty check? Ahmaad: Damn, if its big enough my first check would probably go to a nice house for myself and another house for my moms so everybody would be comfortable. If its not that big I would probably save it in the bank or invest it in a business. I know I wouldnt buy no damn chain lol no sense in that. Urbansteez.com: When you make it big, what car will you first purchase? Ahmaad: To be honest I probably take the car I got now and pay Xzibit to hook my shit up crazy lol like really put some crazy stuff up in there like a X-Box 360 or a Playstation 3 with mad tv's. Then again if that happens I probably wouldn't drive it, I would probably just park it in the driveway and play games in there, the price of gas is ridiculous today lol Urbansteez.com: Lol, you silly for that one!! Who would you say is your celebrity crush and why? Ahmaad: You know I always loved the swagger of Ciara but I think Eva Pigford has always had my heart because she always had a certain sexiness that I always wanted to be around. I wrote her a couple of songs that she needs to hear lol Urbansteez.com: How can fans and future business heads contact you in the future (myspace, email, PO box, etc.)?? Ahmaad: You can hit me up at www.myspace.com/ahmaadmusic or email me at
