Beyond Belief

BEYOND BELIEF is a 21 year-old artist from Rockaway, Queens working under the tutelage of Kwamé on his new indie imprint “Make Noise.”  Beyond Belief’s unprecedented style combines the witty lyricism of influences such as Kool G Rap, Big Pun, & Jay-Z with the energetic, party-driven sound of classic hip-hop acts like the Beastie Boys & RUN-DMC.  Beyond Belief seeks to bridge the gap between the conflicting commercial and underground Hip-Hop scene by creating his own, unique brand of music.  He is not trying to be any one or any thing other than himself.  He just is what he is…Beyond Belief.

Beyond Belief’s debut album “What About BOB?” (available for purchase on iTunes, Rhapsody, Amazon, and Napster ) is entirely produced by Kwamé.  The music video for the first single “Don’t Touch” has appeared nationally on Music Choice On Demand, HBO Zone, & in retail stores such as Foot Locker, Foot Action, Champs, and Steve Madden.

Beyond Belief's music and videos have been featured on sites such as Hip Hop Game, 2 Dope Boyz, On Smash, Hip Hop Ruckus, Star Pulse, Nah Right, DJ Booth, Dat Piff, Rap Basement, etc.  He has also been featured in Hip Hop Weekly, Rap-Up Magazine, & Rap Fanatic Magazine.

Beyond BeliefUrban Steez: Tell everybody your name and what area you represent?

Beyond Belief aka Bobby J from Rockaway

Urban Steez: How did you come up with your music name?

Beyond B: Beyond Belief is a metaphor for the style. It basically means I'm beyond everybody's belief or preconceived notions of what a rapper should look/sound/rap like.

Urban Steez: Yea man you got mad flows…So how long have you been doing music and what made you get into music?

Beyond B: I've been rapping for over ten years and i've been recording professionally for about 8 years now. The thing that made me get into hip-hop was listening to classic 90s rap like jay-z , big pun, biggie, nas, etc. and hearing their techniques of putting words together and wondering to myself if I could do the same thing. From there I started writing and never really stopped.

Urban Steez: Good Stuff! How would you describe your style and why? And what do you feel you can bring to the table as an artist?

Beyond B: I feel like my style is a mixture of the lyrical content that has been lacking as of late and also an element of fun/high energy brought on by influences like the beastie boys, run dmc, MOP, and so on. I want to bridge the gap between what's considered commercial and what’s considered underground by combining both elements that both a hip hop head and casual listener can appreciate.

Urban Steez: DOPE! If you had to pick which label to be signed to what would it be and why?

Beyond B: Honestly, any label that would be wiling to give Make Noise!!! as a label and an imprint to expand itself  and give me and Kwame creative control over how the music sounded. I feel this way because at this point, labels are only good for the monetary push needed to market a successful album.

Urban Steez: That’s wassup! So who would you want to collaborate with in the music industry and why?

Beyond B: There is a lot of people i would collab with but Jay-z and Eminem stand on top of the list. Jay because he's a living legend and is probably the most consistent Hip-Hop artist to ever do it, aside from being one of my idols. Eminem sounds typical for me to say, but as a lyricist I think he's technically one of the best to ever do it and it would be a real challenge for me as an artist to stand toe to toe on a track with him, because so many people have tried and come up short.

Urban Steez: Yea that’s real talk, I can see you and Em’ hittin up the air waves for sure… So how do you feel you rank against top music talents today? And why?

Beyond B: There is nobody I fear as far as rhyming words goes. However, when it comes to music there is competition all over the Hip-Hop scene. I guess it comes down to the preference of the fans. All I know how to do is make music that is true to me, so if people mess with it they can listen, if they don't, they don't have to listen. But based on feedback I get from the people I'd say I stack up pretty good haha.

Urban Steez: Yea man I was hearing one of your Cypher sessions on youtube, and I got to say I’m impressed, you uttered out some ill sh#t! What are you working on now and when can fans expect to hear more from you?

Beyond B: Just put out my debut album "What About Bob?" on itunes which is entirely produced by Kwame. I released my single "Work" to radio last week and just finished up a video for my single "U don't Know me" which will be debuting next month. In the future i'll be working on kwame's next mixtape "Mr. Holland's Opus" and plan to release two dual mixtapes which are currently untitled.

Urban Steez: Nice, I see you stay busy! Where do you see yourself a year from now?

Beyond B: Hopefully with a major deal and doing more shows.

Urban Steez: Who and what are your influences?

Beyond B: Good music in general. I listen to everything. I take the influences I get from listening to a plethora of music and try to incorporate into me and kwame's work in some way shape or form. Also being around creative artists and people pushes me to step my game up because my mind is always in a state of competition.

Urban Steez: Nice. So what do you think of the hip hop/ music world right now?Beyond Belief

Beyond B: I think its starting to go back to being about the music with the rise of the indie scene. If you look hard enough there is something to suit everybody's taste. All I want is the music industry to start recognizing how diverse the music has really become. At the end of the day, I appreciate anyone who has passion for what they do.

Urban Steez: Yea I can dig that! What music do you have playing in your sound system right now?

Beyond B: J Cole "the warm up" Jay-z "BP3" Raekwon "OB4CL 2" DJ Cobra "Iller"

Urban Steez: Yessir!! That sound like my rotation…Who is your celebrity crush?

Beyond B: Alicia Keys

Urban Steez: Good Taste, her legs are killin the game! How can business heads and fans contact you in the future (myspace, email, number, etc.)?

Beyond B: Twitter.com/beyondbeliefnow

Urban Steez: Any shot outs?

Beyond B: I'd like to shout out Kwame, Greg P wattup!, Vezzy and the whole Make Noise!!! family and all my fans who have supported me up to this point i appreciate it!
