BrandUn DeShay, a 19 year old talent  birthed out of  Chicago blesses his listeners with a  smooth alternative but very hip hop delivery. Directly being mentored by rising hip hop star Charles Hamilton , who admires BrandUn’s style and musical ambition gives BradUn’s future in the hip hop game a promising look. Being a producer as well, Mr. Deshay has produced for the likes of Dom Kennedy and more. Currently attending Columbia College in which he is learning to perfect his craft majoring in musical management. So far he has released two EPs , one EP/Mixtape called “Volume: One! For The Money” and just released his second “Volume: Two! For The Show.” Meanwhile BrandUn Deshay has performed shows at notable venues such as Olympic Theatre and Durty Nellies. Increasing his nationwide status doing a number of features with LA up comers Casey Veggies, Dom Kennedy, and Tyler the Creator. His biggest project yet will be his Track with his mentor Charles Hamilton. BrandUn Deshay is looked to as the next prominent artist out of Chicago amongst a small list.

Urban Steez: Tell everybody your name and what area you represent?

Whaddown. My name is BrandUn DeShay, real name. No gimmicks and Im representing my city of Chicago.

Urban Steez: I was going to ask you how you came up with your music name, but I guess that’s out the box now.. lol Moving forward, How long have you been doing music and what made you get into music?

BrandUn: I started rapping the summer of 06 and producing my last semester of high school.  My friend made tracks and after I saw he could make music like the stuff on the radio, I KNEW I could do it. He wasn’t the sharpest tool in the shed.

Urban Steez: Lol I can dig that!! How would you describe your style and why?

BrandUn: Honestly, Chicago has a sound. Im a mixture of that sound with a lot of LA influence with it. Growing up with my father’s music molded me into the Chicago style I have, and just being me contributed to the LA style.

Urban Steez: I see, that’s wassup! If you had to pick which label to be signed to what would it be and why?

BrandUn: Allido Records. Hands down. One, because it’s a division of Interscope. Two, because Mark Ronson is one of my favorite artist and DJs. Three, because its like having a deal, without dealing with major label expectations; though I would fulfill them.

Urban Steez: Cool. Who would you want to collaborate with in the music industry and why?

BrandUn: I would love to do a song with John Mayer because he’s my favorite artist, amongst others. I bought all his albums and wouldn’t be the artists I am without him.

Urban Steez: He is a definite musical talent, so I can relate. What are you working on now and when can fans expect to hear more from you?

BrandUn: Im working on a track with Charles Hamilton at the moment. I started it by myself but he really liked it so he is doin his thing to it too. And I got a remix of Go Fly A Kite with Dom Kennedy that I’ll be releasing soon. This year fans will hear a lot about me and its jus goin to keep growing as the years pass.

Urban Steez: That’s wassup, Charles Hamilton is a becoming a Good Look for hip hop… So,  Who are your influences?

BrandUn: Shel Silverstein is my influence as far as creativity and storytelling go. Musically, it’s a three way tie between John Mayer and Michael Jackson and Pharrell Williams. Pharrell kind of bites from Quincy Though so that’s like the same as Mike I guess. haha

Urban Steez: Lol cool! What do you think of the hip hop/ music world right now?

BrandUn: I think its headed in a great direction and I really love how its grown. I got a whole big theory on why and how but I won’t get into that. Imma jus say I have no complaints really.

Urban Steez: What do you plan to do with your first royalty check?

BrandUn: I wanna pay off my student debt first. After that, I wanna keep it in an offshore account. The stuff I wanna do doesn’t require money, just time.

Urban Steez: That’s real. What car do you feel will serve you right when you make it big?

BrandUn: Hm. I thought bout this before. I said a restored DeLorean cuz NOBODY has that anymore, in the limelight. Haha I might change my mind down the line.

Urban Steez: That’s unique… So, who is your celebrity crush?

BrandUn: That’s a tough question. Its hard to crush on someone you never met. For the longest time I had a crush on this girl Dani who was my friend, but was a star in my eyes. =]
