What the hell is wrong with kids these days? They're obese, they're lazy, and they completely lack imagination. When I was little, my mom told my brother and I to go play outside and come back for dinner; then she would shut the door. We spent hours playing kickball with the neighbor kids, climbing trees, and rollerblading as fast as possible down hills (in an attempt to see if we could stop before rolling down into the weeds full of snakes, I think we actually started the show wipeout).
I'm going to let you in on a little secret America; the way to solve childhood obesity, starts with making your kids get off their fat asses and outside to function as productive human beings. Between TV and video games, kids don't have to think, move, or do much of anything to develop their minds or bodies. And no, it's not the entertainment world's fault, it's yours. Your child learns from their environment and their role models. When you're not active and you eat crap, guess what? Little Johnny doesn't stand a chance either. Not only are you aiding in shortening your child's life, you're limiting their ability to contribute and thrive as an adult. Because I was forced to go out and use my imagination, I am as an adult, able to solve problems in a creative way. I don't see problems, I see solutions. Kids today don't have to think for themselves, when the power goes out, they're effed. They don't know how to build forts, fight imaginary bad guys, or host talent competitions with a boom box and a flashlight. These kids get bored. Without technology, they've got nothing. We never got bored, we never complained the N64 wasn't working. We either fixed it (ya'll remember when we thought blowing on the game fixed everything??) or we played something else. If I tried to tell my mom I was bored, she would have thought I was insane. She wouldn't have bought me a new video game or Justin Bieber DVD. She would have given me a soccer ball and told me to have a great day and come back for dinner. It really pisses me off to see generations like mine having kids and sticking them in front of the TV. Do yourself and your child a favor and show them what it means to have a healthy and happy lifestyle. Don't limit your children from the get go. Give them everything you possibly can to grow up to be as successful as they possibly can be. Otherwise, do us all a favor, and get fixed.
