Ferrari Barbi

Raised in the streets of Birmingham, Alabama, Ronnecia MaQuis Nunn aka "Suzanna Samone" aka Ferrari Barbie, didn't always think number one in her life should be rapping. Plagued with a community of drugs, prostitution and gang violence, she new she had to get money and be out. She knew one day she would return and rep for other hot acts out of her area. Money was the easy part for Suzanna Samone, but getting out of the fast life came with a price.

Finding herself stuck in an abusive relationship in 1997 that almost claimed her life, when her boyfriend crashed a vehicle with her in it. The accident sent her to the hospital with a 30/70 percent chance she would come out of the surgery and unclear if she would she ever walk again.

It was during her recovery that she spent a lot of time listening to music and evaluating what she heard from other artist. Suzanna Samone felt like there was a lack of message that the ladies of hip hop past like Queen Latifah, Queen Pen, MC Lyte, Sweet Tee and Yo-Yo would give to you. So she started writing lyrics and recording with friend and rap artist/Producer "Attitude" of Warner Bros. Records.

Suzanna Samone started a major campaign of getting her music heard in Alabama, performing for record pools, car and bike shows, high schools, colleges and eventually opening for Young Joc in Alabama. Throughout her early journey of being an artist, She opened doors for herself, by getting in the studio with Attitude of Warner Bros Records.

Currently Suzanna Samone has a single called "Million Dollar Swagg". With a video planned for the single as well as her new mixtape soon to be released called Suzanna Samone vs. "Ferrari Barbie", she will continue to hit coast from East, West, North and of course South.

With the assistance of a good team behind her and her drive it’s only a matter of time before hip hop will mention Suzanna Samone aka Ferrarie Barbie, when they talk about hot females in the rap business today.

Ferrari BarbiUrban Steez: Tell everybody your name and area you represent?

What up? I am known as the one and only Suzanna Samone aka Ferrari Barbie. I represent the dirtiest of the dirty, Magic City, Alabama. If you don't know where that is, Ya slow.

Urban Steez: Lol…How did you come up with your music name?

Suzanna Samone: Suzanna comes from an American song called," Old Susanna", considering the fact that I come from Alabama. The song is a racist song and in the original version of the song wriiten by Stephen Foster in 1848. Stephen Foster was a friend of Virginia Minstrel Troupe member of a circus. Troupes are groups of white men made of as black performers, presenting songs and jokes. Minstrel is a musician, singer, and poet. Stephen Foster joined the troupe and began performing written songs and songs he wrote. First song performed was called "Away down souf" and his next was Susanna. The song "Susanna" was advertised at A Grand Gala Concert" as a new song, never before given to the public. In the Original Version, it makes racial slurs to the African American community. My name is to educate those that are blind and that don't know the history behind the songs we sing to our kids. They have been re written and bought from Record labels known today. Suzanna is my change, my contribution to all that struggled to see us succeed, I do this for them and the name is a consent reminder.

Samone comes from the Simone Great like; Nina Simone. I changed the spelling because i didn't want to be like everyone else. I use this name for a reason. Nina Simone taught us to be proud of color and ourselves. By her being a woman doing what she did, was powerful. She would write songs to protest during the civil rights movement. She influenced alot of people, she was talented and she could adapt to all genre's and style. I feel the same way about myself. No one sounded like Nina Simone, In her songs, every syllable and every word have their own meaning. She realized early in her age, what it was like to be black. Ok, now we know what its like to be black, I think people need to know what its like to be a woman, a mother, and minority.

Ferrari Barbie was made up by a friend of mine. I like Ferraris, I live in the fast lane and people always say I look like a doll. Barbie just fit so perfect.

Urban Steez: That’s wassup, you broke it DOWN! How long have you been doing music and what made you get into music?

Suzanna Samone: I was doing music since 1998. I use to go to open mics in Birmingham. I met my homeboy, now Warner Brothers recording artist, Attitude.

Attitude and a few other cats use to come to my house with their beat machines and keyboards to my house. I watched and learned the format of rapping. I knew if I started creating lyrics, the songs have to be worth listening too. I started paying attention to the female artist that had been out in the past like Queen Latifah, MC Lyte and others from that era. I felt very inspired by songs with substance and meaning. So I wrote what I was feeling. I wasn't as serious because starting out, I wasn't too hot. I grew and kept writing like people told me. I became better and time progressed.

Urban Steez: Yea, that is usually the process, practice makes perfect. So know that you are at a point where it is time to shine, how would you describe your style and why? And what do you feel you ca bring to the table as an artist?

Suzanna Samone: My style is universal. In my songs you can hear the power behind the words. I say things that are reality and in the now. Thing’s that matter.I know I can bring change to the way female rappers are looked at. Alot of people say female artist, “Sex” their way to the top" and that is not so these days.

Urban Steez: True, im glad you are reppin , I ran across a lot of talented female MC’s that are truly spittin, you being one of them. I thinks its time for the world to recognize that female MC’s have a lot more depth. If you had to pick which label to be signed to what would it be and why?

Suzanna Samone: I would rather be independent but if I had to choose it would be a major label like Geffen or Universal. They’ve been around a while and a lot of major artist elevated to the level that desired.

Urban Steez: I see.. So how do you feel you rank against top music talents today? And why?

Suzanna Samone: Its only right that I say I rank next to them. They have their fans and I got mine. I am growing and I'm gonna be unstoppable. Let me just say this, Every one gets a time to shine in life, they had theirs, It is my time.

Urban Steez: I like that, well said! What are you working on now and when can fans expect to hear more from you?

Suzanna Samone: I am currently working on my Official Mixtape hosted by Slip N Slide DJ 5053 and also a  Mixtape hosted by DJ Bobby Black of the Superfriends in Atlanta. The mixtape will be coming out in August. We are pushing the single "Million Dollar Swagg" the Pink Carpet Mixtape downloadable free at Undergroundgirlsofhiphop.com. Urban Steez: That’s wassup! Where do you see yourself a year from now?

Suzanna Samone: Still grinding hard like the first day on a job. I hope I get more creative, more shows, more interviews, and more publicity.

Urban Steez: You will, like you said everyone gets their time to shine…Who and what are your influences?

Suzanna Samone: My influences are things and people that make changes. I don't know everything but I do know I like to be a trendsetter. Being different is apart of my life. I'm influenced by artist that has been strong in the game like Run DMC, Jay Z, Diddy, TI, Jeezy and many others. Also the fallen influences in my life like Micheal Jackson, Aaliyah, Jam Master Jay, Lisa lefteye Lopes, Pac and Biggie.

Urban Steez: What do you think of the hip hop/music world right now?Ferrari Barbi

Suzanna Samone: It has definitely changed. There is a such thing as Fads, Fads are things that are temporary. Just as the quicker its in, it will be out. It's the truth as much as people hates it.

Urban Steez: Very true, hip hop can be very seasonal at times. What music do you have playing in your sound system right now?

Suzanna Samone: I got alot downloaded on the ipod. I am currently listening to of course, Suzanna Samone, Jeezy- Trappin aint dead, Lil Wayne, Drake, I like Nicky Minaj, Gucci Mane, I be switchin up alot. I be listening to that MJ, Micheal Jackson.

Urban Steez: Who is your celebrity crush?
