What is a dream? Some may say a dream is nothing more than a vivid thought created while sleeping while others say a dream is something that will never manifest. To achieve a dream one must possess a dedicated work ethic, constantly strive and have a never give up attitude towards your goal. Failure is the greatest way to achieve success because success is greater appreciated once you have experienced failure. If there is one person that possesses the passion and desire to turn dreams into realities it is Courtney M. Gonsalves also know as Fly C. This gifted and fierce lyricist was born October 8th, 1988 on the tough, lower class streets of Boston, Massachusetts, in a neighborhood known as Roxbury. Growing up FLY C rapped as a way to cope with stressful everyday problems and adversity. Fly C’s clever word play helped him to realize that rapping was not only a way to relieve stress but also a way to display his creativity. After gaining the confidence to perform in front of crowds at the tender age of thirteen and noticing the reaction of peers and spectators, he recognized that this was a dream he had to pursue. Fly C was influenced by artists such as Jay-Z, Can-I-Bus, Big Land and, The Notorious B.I.G. As the popularity of these artists increased their lyrics were being recited by students in school and individuals in the street and Fly C knew that it would only be a matter of time before fans would be repeating his lyrics. Years of freestyling, ciphers, and battles helped develop this young mans unique style of rap and the use of his punch lines to excite the listeners. This dream came true with the release of his solo mixtape in 2007 entitled "2nd Son Of Jorell" in which FLY C demonstrates his lyrical ability with the use of distinguishing punch lines as well as discussing his life events as though it was a movie. Fly C is looking to bring Boston to a mainstream audience so that they can receive the recognition that they deserve. Fly C will continue his journey with the release of his highly anticipated mixtape TBP, “The Business Proposal” scheduled to be released soon.

Urban Steez: Tell everybody your name and what area you represent?
I go by FLY-C, I represent a small town in Boston, MA called Roxbury. My city made me who I am today so I represent my city to the greatest extent
Urban Steez: I see, that’s wassup! How did you come up with your music name?
Fly C: Well for a while I went by the name Young Chillz and my signature on records would be me saying YC. Then one day I said FLY-C on a record I did called obsession, It started off as a joke but my boys who were in the studio session heard me say the name and said I should run with it and thats what ive been using ever since, seems that a lot of people like that name more anyways haha.
Urban Steez: I heard that! So, how long have you been doing music and what made you get into music?
Fly C: Ive been recording music since I was 13 years old. A friend of mines got me in the studio for the 1st time. At 13 I didn’t really think I'd be serious about music. My 1st time recording and actually hearing myself on a CD was amazing to me. I thought it was fun, so I went on to record more and more I got to a point where I fell in love with my music. I started working on perfecting my craft, my sound, my lyrics, everything. Im still working on myself as an artist. There's always room for improvement. Feedback, and hearing how I’ve grown as an artist pushes me to keep going and pushes me to do better.
Urban Steez: With music you can never max out, its always growth, that’s why music can never get old. How would you describe your style and why? And what do you feel you can bring to the table as an artist?
Fly C: My style is very lyrical, very direct and laid back but aggressive at the proper time and I feel that I bring back realness and direction to the game, because for a while a lot of people were talking about yachts, having bugatti's, millions of dollars and other luxuries that they really didn't have, trust me I was one of the rappers that was talking about it haha. Now some of my music is all about direction and telling people how to overcome certain situations, or getting over something or someone, making the people feel what I went through. When a person can relate to your music they feel your pain and understand you more and become appreciative. I feel I am the voice people need to hear.
Urban Steez: I fee you man. If you had to pick which label to be signed to what would it be and why?
Fly C: I rather be independent and distributed by a major label... being signed to an independent label or signed to a label that I plan on starting one day would be the best move for the simple fact that I want to own the rights to my music. Distribution would get my music in the hands of the world. So which ever big label I feel the most comfortable distributing my music will be the label I run with.
Urban Steez: I agree that is a good way to go these days, especially if you have a strong team behind you. Who would you want to collaborate with in the music industry and why?
Fly C: As far as producers I'd love to work with DJ Khalid and Just Blaze, their production is amazing haha... & Kanye West for the same exact reason but at the same time he's a perfectionist and working with Kanye would make a big impact on me musically, i'm a big fan of Kanye and your parents always say don’t want to be someone, want to be better so working with him would allow me to see his work ethic and help me to be so much better as an artist along with getting the chance to have a record with Kanye West one of the biggest hiphop artist of our time.
Urban Steez: That’s Wassup! So how do you feel you rank against top music talents today? And why?
Fly C: I think once the proper backing comes along I’m going to outshine damn near everyone haha. I do damn near everything by myself, so if the proper backing got involved with me and promoted me right I think I can be one of the biggest hiphop artist the music business has ever seen but there is definitely some great talent out there and I respect what everyone is doing musically.
Urban Steez: Hey if you don’t believe in yourself first then who will. What are you working on now and when can fans expect to hear more from you?
Fly C: Currently, I am coming with concepts for my next project because I have completed my new mixtape "The Business Proposal". I'm going to keep a hold on the date so until we add the finishing touches. The entire project is produced by the TrackSlayerz and it has a strong concept behind it which everyone will love from start to finish. Listening to it will make you feel like your watching a movie, its just not a movie but in your imagination you can picture everything that’s going on. Look out for TBP (The Business Proposal) coming soon!
Urban Steez: Nice! Where do you see yourself a year from now?
Fly C: In a year from now I can see myself in a mansion with a view of the beach haha, nah im kiddin. I can see myself growing more and more musically, getting some major placements with some big artist because I produce as well, and I also see myself possibly getting the deal I want... I just have to work hard in a year from now what I’m saying could be my reality.
Urban Steez: Sounds Good! Who and what are your influences?
Fly C: My mother is a major influence, Kanye West, and definitely Jay-Z. Very big influences in my life! If my mother was ever a music artist she'd be at a Kanye or Jay-Z status, she has the mind of a millionaire...
Urban Steez: That’s Wassup.. (singing) “The Key’s to the Roc, this is Roccafella” lol . So, what do you
think of the hip hop/ music world right now?
Fly C: Hip hop is getting back to the way it used to be, lyricism is back, fashion is back, everything that we felt hip hop lost is coming back, the creativity different topics are being made, all the videos aren't green screen all the time haha. I love it, and im happy to be apart of this era. Hip Hop’s revival era.
Urban Steez: Yessir! What music do you have playing in your sound system right now?
Fly C: Definitely Rick Ross's album Deeper Then Rap, Kanye's 808's and heartbreak, Im still bumping Drake's So Far Gone, and Jay-Z the Blueprint 3
Urban Steez: Yea Drake got a lot to top with that “So far Gone” he mustard up! Who is your celebrity crush?
Fly C: Awww man you gonna get me in trouble haha, but I'm gonna have to say Meagan Fox.
Urban Steez: Meagan was in the Maxim 100, she is definitely official! How can business heads and fans contact you in the future (myspace, email, number, etc.)?
Fly C: The quickest way to contact me would be twitter, haha. Im addicted to twitter so im on it all the time www.twitter.com/ItsFlyC you can contact me on myspace as well www.myspace.com/FlyCmusic
