Brooklyn, New York has been the birthplace of some of hip hop's most gifted and innovative MC's of our era. Yet none have been as prolific as Brooklyn's newest young hit maker: John Sportin. This talented rhyme slinger is already on the path to being placed in Brooklyn's rap hall of fame his objective with his music is to become known as one of the greatest MC's not for what he does but how he does it.
Born Errol Stapleton, the twenty-five- year-old became fascinated with the rap game at the age of eleven. He was a slightly hostile kid whose hostility sometimes would lead to him getting into fights. With the encouragement of his fifth grade teacher, young Errol began to write down his feelings in order to release his anger, this began his journey towards rap.
He had such a love for music that he began to write songs using these words. It was during this time that he performed his first rap in front of his entire elementary school. This catapulted his desire to become a rapper as he began writing more songs about his life and how he was feeling. In 1996 Errol Stapleton became John Sportin, a name that was given to him by a well known neighborhood producer.
John Sportin began to hone his craft and set out to differentiate himself from other rappers. "I'm different from any other rapper in the game because I speak about things that I believe in," he says. "I talk about things that I have experienced and things that I believe people should know. I try to talk about realistic things, and I speak the truth about everything--no matter if it makes me look good or bad." John Sportin credits the likes of Jay-Z, Notorious B.I.G., Nas, Method Man, Bob Marley, Eminem, and Dr. Dre as some of his musical inspirations.
Working with the kids of his neighborhood in Brownsville, Brooklyn, he helps them do as he once did as a child and vent through music he hopes to one day become an inspiration to them the same as his inspirations have been to him. Sportin is currently working on his first album with a couple of big name producers; he has a catalog of over 200 songs with collaborations with artist such as Kevin Lyttle, Joel Ortiz, Vein and H2O. With his smooth flow, killer delivery, and clever rhymes, John Sportin will not just be adding to the list of successful New York rappers. He will be named as one of the greatest and accomplished what he set in his heart out to do.

Urbansteez.com: Tell us your name, where you are from and or what area do you represent?
John Sportin aka The best Unsigned rapper in America, straight out of Brooklyn, NY- repping BROWNSVILLE, on my brownsville grill swagg/ peep my gucci belt when my jeans sagg...
Urbansteez.com: How did you come up with your name?
John Sportin: I came up with the name "John Sportin" from being a Wu-Tang fan from back in the day, When everyone in the Wu had alias names (i.e Method Man was Johnny Blaze and Ghost face was Tony Starks, Rza was Bobby Digital) so I decided to make up a name like that, because it was unusual and it would have been hard to put me in a category with other rappers, apouse to if I had a name like "Killer Dealer" or "Hustler Buffler" or something cliche of that nature
Urbansteez.com: How long have you been pursuing a career in the music industry?
John Sportin: I think its been about 5 years since I started taking everything serious, I've been rapping for along time for fun with my child hood friends but about 5 years ago started taking things a little bit more serious What were you into before pursuing a career in music? before I started pursing my music career seriously, I was into normal stuff, like going to school, hitting clubs up, doing my athlete thing in school, did the college thing and graduated (didn't pull a Kanye) lol
Urbansteez.com: Lol, thats wassup!! As an artist how would you describe your sound and why?
John Sportin: No words can describe my sound, I try not to be boxed in, and I dont have the same sound all the time i just try to have the same level of high quality on my songs and always try to make a better song than my last one If you had your pick which label to be signed to, which label would it be and why? I would try to get a label deal instead of just getting a record deal and I would like to be in a position where I can have majority of the creative control, so to answer that question any label that will believe in my music and give me the right amount of backing to take my career and my label to the next level.
Urbansteez.com: Who in your future would you want to collaborate with and why?
John Sportin: I would like to work with someone that i think i can learn from, someone that definitely makes timeless music, someone probably like Jay-z, Kanye West, Scarface, Snoop Dogg or Mary J Blige,
Urbansteez.com: Good stuff! What are you working on now, and when can we expect to hear more of you?
John Sportin: Im actually working on alot of things right now, finishing up my next release, also working on a Independent Album, and a couple of other treats that are gonna shake up the industry and the underground, and you can expect to hear the next release the day after election day. you can quote me on that...
Urbansteez.com: What do you think about the music game today?
John Sportin: I think the music game is going through a little adversity, because the labels haven't really come up with a method to keep up with the digital thing thats going on right now, I think it is still possible to sell records, you just have to make good records, Lil Wayne did pretty good with his album sales, Kanye West did pretty good , Alicia Keys did good also. They made very good albums and people went out and spent their money. so I think the game isn't doing as bad as what alot of people make it out to be
Urbansteez.com: What will you do with your first royalty check?
John Sportin: Depending on the amount, take my granny out the hood, pay my bills, invest in some real estate and hire an accountant, and with my 2nd royalty check i'll acquire more haters...lol
Urbansteez.com: When you make it big, what car will you first purchase?
John Sportin: I am a tall guy, so whatever is hot at the time with alot of space.
Urbansteez.com: Who would you say is your celebrity crush and why?
