Unsigned Hype Kedaru

Keyandre “Kedaru” Brown has brought the cutting-edge lyrics, the dynamic swagg and is constantly mastering his craft in order to compete in the Hip Hop Industry.  Sly punchlines and iconic stage presence has definitely made Kedaru a front runner in bringing the Crown back to the West.  Born in Compton, California to Willis Brown Sr. and Jacqueline Smith, Kedaru had dreams of becoming a big NFL football star.  He played football for the Junior All-American 49ers team, Moreno Valley high school, and for a Semi-Professional team.  Although football proved to be successful, Kedaru’s passion focused elsewhere.  After writing his first verse and becoming infatuated with perfecting his artisty, football became a mere hobby and did not stand a chance against his booming rap career.

The journey from recording beats on a portable tape recorder with rhymes and sounds made from his mouth and having random freestyle sessions with friends and family eventually prompted the idea for Kedaru to start a Rap group called 5150.  5150 is made up of Kedaru and four of his closest relatives (The Dubb, Young Flip, Bo Gotti, and Desmo) and since the birth of the group Kedaru has not looked back.  In 1998, Kedaru recorded his first solo record and began produce, write, and arrange all his own music as well as music of for different R&B artists.  Kedaru has managed to create a “hood buzz” with his singles, “Freak,” “Intoxicated,” and “Dear Hip-Hop.”

The roots of his music are a combination of his favorite artists ranging from Tupac Shakur, DJ Quik, NWA, Snoop Dogg, and even family members Jonathan “Tookie” Smith, Marcus “Pooh” Brown, Osborne “Beano” Brown.  Kedaru has prided himself on not letting any setbacks ruin his chance on becoming one of the greatest rappers to write and rhyme in his own element.  Although his music career has proven to be on a constant rise to the top especially after opening for rap heavyweights such as E-40, MIMS, and Naughty-by-Nature Kedaru encountered his number one blessing on January 18, 2006 when his daughter Kiarre Aayani Brown was born.  T

Embarking on a rap career has not been the easiest task, however, Kedaru exudes confidence and has the professional work ethic needed to be revered by many fans and other artists. Kedaru has performed in major cities and within the years to come, Kedaru expects to flourish and make his name synonymous with West Coast greats such as Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Ice Cube.  Stay tuned because his show has just began.

KedaruUrban Steez: Tell everybody your name and what area you represent?

Kedaru:  “ My name is Kedaru and I represent Compton, California”

Urban Steez: How did you come up with your music name?

Kedaru: “ Well my name is Keyaudre and since I was a kid my aunt would always call me “Keda” and being that I grew up in a “quote” “unquote” Blood neighborhood  I just added the “RU” to the end and got KEDARU…”

Urban Steez: I feel you! How long have you been doing music and what made you get into music?

Kedaru: “ Well I have always been interested in music and football, but I have been rapping since I was about 9 years old.  And since I had uncles who made a name for themselves in the rap industry I always knew it would be my destiny.”

Urban Steez: You definitely have a solid flow…How would you describe your style and why?

Kedaru: “  I would describe my style as a lyricist who knows how to have fun and know what type of music is me.  I have a passion about this rap and music and my style reflects that.”

Urban Steez: So as far as the west coast why do you think it fell off as far as hip hop is concerned? What do you think has to happen for the west coast music scene to be back in full effect?

Kedaru: “ I think that the west coast fell off because so many west coast artists feel that they have to gansta’s and rap about shooting people and negative stuff. They have to realize that radio isn’t about that anymore and they have come with it and stop trying to make the west coast all about gangsta rap.”

Urban steez: Yea it seems like they try to keep LA artist in that “ Gotta be gangsta” Box… Its so many different lifestyles and stories that need to be told on a musical tip coming out of LA. What do you think it takes to be a successful rapper these days?

Kedaru: “I think to be a successful rapper you have to stick what you feel is the best for you. Do not try to be like everyone else stay true to who you are and not feed into all the b.s and hating that a lot of people do these days.”

Urban Steez: Real talk. Who would you want to collaborate with in the music industry and why?

Kedaru: “ I respect and honor Ice Cube for all his hardwork and loyalty to himself and the industry. I would love to work with him because he seems to be a genuine person.”

Urban Steez: What are you working on now and when can fans expect to hear more from you?

Kedaru: “I never stop working on my craft. Music is my muse and I continue to work on it day and night, single after single. My  myspace music page stays updated with my new singles and I love to perform and do shows so Im just looking for any upcoming shows where I can grace the stage.”

Urban Steez: That’s wassup…Where do you see yourself a year from now?

Kedaru: “ If things keep progressing the way they are I see myself  hopefully signed and my music on the radio.”  “ I never stop working and I know that all this will pay off.”

Urban Steez: God helps those who help themselves. Who are your influences?

Kedaru: “ I was really influenced growing by my uncles who really made me love music and of course hip hop greats Tupac, Snoop Dogg and so on.”

Urban Steez: What do you think of the hip hop/ music world right now?

Kedaru: “Music is a universal force, although the industry has changed, music will always exist and I think as long as talented and hardworking people stay motivated and on the grind like I am.. the hip hop/music world will be just fine.”

Urban Steez: What do you think you bring to the music game as far as your music is concerned?

Kedaru: “ I am determined to make good music.” “ As I have said before music is muse and I can rap, produce, write, and my stage presence is phenomenal.”

Urban Steez: How can business heads and fans contact you in the future (myspace, email, number, etc.)?

Kedaru: “ If anyone would like to get in touch with me they can contact me on myspace

Urban Steez: Fa sho, Any shot outs?

Kedaru: “ I want to shoutout to my group 5150 who has been holding it down with me and my family.” “ Also to the love my life Kiarre, daddy loves you.”
