The New Breed is a funky hip-hop duo based in Nor Cal, consisting of Rockland, NY native Eric "Super Star Mas" Masbad and Lawton, OK born Meguel "Copasetic" Copeland. The group's original musical style was a mixture of East Coast Lyrics with a Southern Feel. Since then, however, funk, soul, rock, electronic music, spoken word poetry, jazz and blues elements have been added to the group's musical palette.
The New Breed's blend of clever, witty lyrics over southern bass and electro-pop instrumentals makes this group a MUST LISTEN. They have been doing music for a little over a year and have already surpassed the level of most artist that have been trying to do what they do all there lives. They have been featured on many mixtapes but most notably they had their smash singles Gone Forever and E.L.M. featured on "Street Stamp Vol. 5" mixed by DJ Capcom, hosted by Young Money.
In the age of "Everyone wants to be a gangsta, pimp, or dealer", The New Breed brings something new and refreshing. The New Breed's latest album, Made in America Vol. 1, unites Super Star Mas's East coast swag with Copasetic's syrupy lyrics to produce a solid record chock full of ultra-catchy gems. With standout tracks like "Gone Forever" & "E.L.M.," don't be surprised if you find The New Breed at the top of the Hip-Hop charts and beyond.
Location: Nothern Cali
New Breed - E.L.M. (Everybody Love Me)
Urban Steez: Tell everybody your name and what area you represent?
Super Star Mas:Whats good I'm Superstar Mas aka Prince of the Roc n I'm reppin Rockland Ny
Copasetic: The name is Copasetic and I rep Lawton, OK and every hippie around the world. And we are The New Breed.
Urban Steez: How did you come up with your music name?
Super Star Mas: We came up with The New Breed cause we feel like were a breath of fresh air to hip hop...Superstar Mas cause my last name is Masbad and I'm a real confident individual.
Copasetic: Be definition my stage name means excellent, completely satisfying, and very ironically it mean OK which is the abbreviation is my home state.
Urban Steez: How long have you been doing music and what made you get into music?
Super Star Mas: I think it's been a year now...this shit really started as a hobby till we realized people really like our shit !!!
Copasetic: We have been doing music for a little over a year now.I literally put the pen to the pad for the first time then... our first couple of songs we recorded were absolutely HORRIBLE! lol But we stuck with it and dug deep and started to make hits. What really encouraged me to start doing music was the lack of intelligent hip hop artist and the image and negative energy that they gave off... We want to make hip hop artist intellectually respected again.
Urban Steez: Lol, yea that’s what it takes, trial and error.. How would you describe your style and why? And what do you feel you can bring to the table as an artist?
Super Star Mas: Fun, charismatic, just do and say whatever the fuck I want it's me..as far as what I bring to the table something no one has ever seen or experienced before.
Copasetic:I honestly couldn’t tell you lol. I would leave that up to the listeners. When I create music I just do me... I sound like me... and I deliver it like me. So I guess my style would be... me lol. As an artist I feel we can bring that late 1990’s feel back to the game. When groups use to stay together and do unheard of songs. Topics like vegetarianism, atheism, peace, no violence, and most of all life. We feel we can make sex sexy again and education cool again. But also as an artist we will not only speak about our love for the community but we will also run campaigns and charities for our communities as well.
Urban Steez: If you had to pick which label to be signed to what would it be and why?
Super Star Mas:I don’t know if he still has a label but def Damon Dash, he just seems like he would give us the creative space we need to develop as artist.
Copasetic: I would most def like to say Damon Dash or Indie. I see so many artist with indie groups that go to a major and their shit sucks horribly now. I feel we should build our fan base as a large cult, that way we will have leverage over most major labels and get the deals we deserve.
Urban Steez: That’s Wassup! What’s the biggest challenge you feel you face as an artist?
Super Star Mas:Just being able to stay creative and keep people’s interests in what we do
Copasetic: Having a wife, one kid, one on the way, a full time job, and doing music is a major stress factor in my life... The challenge is waking up at 5am and getting the kid ready, and making breakfast, working my 9 hour shift, picking up my son, having decent family time, hit the music till around 12 sometimes 2am and wake up at 5 to do it all over again. Most artist don’t have to deal with that.
Urban Steez: I hear that being in the music making business is a challenge wither way you look at it, you have to make sacrifices. Who would you want to collaborate with in the music industry and why?
Super Star Mas:Nobody really specific mmm def gaga if I had to choose, but mostly people outside of hip hop cause I have a real eclectic taste in music
Copasetic: The Killers, Blink 182, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Elton John, Kanye if he promises not to Taylor Swift us, Kid Cudi, Wallpaper, Big K.R.I.T., Wiz, Kendrick Lamar, Adele, XV, Maroon 5, Flyleaf, Rob Zombie, Kid Ink, Miguel, Andre 3000, & my bitch PINK! lol I want to do music with these people because that’s whose music I listen to mostly and who I respect as individuals.
Urban Steez: So how do you feel you rank against top music talents today? And why?
The New Breed: We have ways to go before we can compare ourselves to anyone...but we are sure we will be a formidable comparison in the near future.
Urban Steez: What are you working on now and when can fans expect to hear more from you?
The New Breed: We are finally getting our team together and are planning on doing very big shows around Nor Cal. We will have a show called New Breed Tuesdays starting October this year on Youtube, creating a free mixtape exclusively on Dat Piff late this year.
Urban Steez: Give us a quote, the best represents what you are about?
Super Star Mas: From the late great Jimi Hendrix Music is my religion.
Copasetic: I have only one life... and to me there is no afterlife... so I will literally treat each day like it is my last.
Urban Steez: Well put.. Who and what are your influences?
Super Star Mas: Tupac...Nas...Jay Z...Kanye West jus to name a few
Copasetic: Andre 3000, Ozzy Osbourne, Lupe, Guns N Roses, Kanye, Wiz Khalifa, & Cam’ron... plenty more but yea.
Urban Steez: If music never existed what do you think you would be doing?
Super Star Mas:Hmm...probably still the military.
Copasetic: Teaching Theology, Nutrition, or History at a university.
Urban Steez: What do you think of the hip hop/ music world right now?
Super Star Mas:Hip hop is getting better finally making room for newer artists coming out but I think as a whole the audience is real ignorant.
Copasetic: At a epic shift... I think labels are snatching up people with actually lyrical skills now instead of what they have been doing.
Urban Steez: What music do you have playing in your sound system right now?
Super Star Mas: New Breed bitch lol
Copasetic: Big K.R.I.T. Return of 4eva
Urban Steez: That Big K.R.I.T. does knock, I put that on my Sub!! Who is your celebrity crush?
Super Star Mas: Lol...Ima have to steal my homies gurl n say Pink lol....
Copasetic: It changes all the time lol but right now it is Pink (Fuck Mas lol) & Kristen Stewart (Fuck Edward and Jacob) lol
Urban Steez: LOL.. Sharing is caring!! How can business heads and fans contact you in the future (myspace, email, number, etc.)?
