Being singed at 13 years old by Trick Daddy/Slip n Slide Records can create a hype but that hype got shut down when a unfortunate death happened and O.Z.'s mother pulled her son out of his deal. Still perfecting his craft never losing sight of what he wants O.Z. kept writing and free-styling. At the age of 15 O.Z. rode to a studio session with his cousin and was asked to freestyle, O.Z. blew everybody away. In the studio was Jermaine Robinson CEO of High Capacity Management. Jermaine asked O.Z. to come back and eventually sign O.Z. to a management contract. Once under High Capacity O.Z. was in the studio working with producers who had solidified placements with artists such as 50 Cent, Fat Joe, Juelz Santana, Lil Wayne, etc...
In just 2 years under High Capacity Management, O.Z. dropped 3 mixtapes and found himself working with Terror Squads own Fat Joe and landed placements on Fat Joe's last two albums the 2008 album release "Elephant In The Room"(What Chu Got ft Rick Ross & O.Z.) and the 2009 album release "J.O.S.E.2"(Put YA In Da Game ft. T-Pain & O.Z.) So as you can see O.Z. is no stranger to dedication and hard work. O.Z. continues to remain in the studio working.
O.Z feat Germaine Martel - We In Here
Urban Steez: Tell everybody your name and what area you represent?
O.Z. and as most may know I’m from Carol City in Miami, FL
Urban Steez: How did you come up with your music name?
O.Z. : Um!!! It’s a hood thing, but it sort of came from things we do round da area.
Urban Steez: Lol, I see… How long have you been doing music and what made you get into music?
O.Z. : I've been making music now for at least 10 years or so and it’s gotten better and better. I got into this game when I was eight years old through my god brother and some mutual friends from my neighborhood. We actually formed a group and started rocking like that.
Urban Steez: How would you describe your style and why? And what do you feel you can bring to the table as an artist?
O.Z. : My style is more of the bragadocious rap or the life telling story style I also like to make alto of club records as well. The difference I bring to the table is I’m very diverse and most importantly I’m not scared to try anything, in this game it’s great to be different.
Urban Steez: That’s wassup, versatility is key! If you had to pick which label to be signed to what would it be and why?
O.Z. : If I had to pick I would probably go with Universal or Atlantic purposely because of the label mates I’d have, but for future notice I'm open to whomever offers me the best deal for my career and my life because its more than just music this is my lively hood and I take that very personal.
Urban Steez: I hear that. What’s the biggest challenge you feel you face as an artist?
O.Z. : My biggest challenge I believe is realizing that me, as a person, and where my career is taking me will no longer let me be a regular person so I have to be very selective of what I do and where I go, but I think I got it under control besides my people got my back. Lol....
Urban Steez: Yea, you definitely have to be mindful of that. Who would you want to collaborate with in the music industry and why?
O.Z. : I have a huge list but to keep it realistic my choices would be of course Fat Joe, Lil Wayne, Jay-Z, Eminem, Nas, Busta Rhymes, and my three choices of my era would be J. Cole, Drake, and Wiz Khalifa
Urban Steez: I can see you a J. Cole tearing some shit up in the booth .. So how do you feel you rank against top music talents today? And why?
O.Z. : Well I mean every artist feels that they’re the best but honestly I believe I’ll give a couple of people a run for their money. Truthfully speaking I've been featured on a couple artist records and when it’s all said and done I either make them re-write their verse or they just feel the pressure of good competition so I think I rank pretty good. Overall I'm the best artist word to moms.
Urban Steez: Anytime you make a cat re write his verse, then it’s safe to say you’rekind of a big deal! What are you working on now and when can fans expect to hear more from you?
O.Z. : Right now I’m on a new mixtape and I’m also working with Fat Joe on the Terror Squad album so things are going pretty good so far. My fans or people who are looking forward to my music can find me on Datpiff.com, YouTube, WordStar, and they can also follow me on Twitter @ozmr28grams, or facebook.com/mr28grams.
Urban Steez: Fat Joe is a legend in my book, I grew up listening to his joints, We will definitely be on the lookout for that mixtape, keep us posted! Give us a quote, the best represents what you are about?
O.Z. : Live for today and worry about tomorrow if it comes.
Urban Steez: Niiiiice (Fabolous voice) Who and what are your influences?
O.Z. : First and foremost GOD, my mom, after that my family, my girl, and my entire 28gramsENT fam.
Urban Steez: What do you think of the hip hop/ music world right now?
O.Z. : I think it took a turn for the better of music and the business as of now but I feel it has come back round to the genre of real hip-hop.
Urban Steez: I Agree. What music do you have playing in your sound system right now?
O.Z. : Me, myself, and I, Fat Joe, Lil Wayne, and J. Cole
Urban Steez: Who is your celebrity crush?
O.Z. : Rihanna, that’s my baby right there, but honestly Keri Hilson, my wife, she’s on Beyonce heels.
Urban Steez: LOL, you got taste Bruh! How can business heads and fans contact you in the future (myspace, email, number, etc.)?
O.Z. : My fans or people who are looking forward to my music can find me on Datpiff.com, YouTube, WordStar, and they can also follow me on Twitter @ozmr28grams or facebook.com/mr28grams
