There is a new, young artist hitting the scene by the name of Phil the Thrill, (born Phil Frazier), who is bringing a competitive flow and craftiness to today’s music genre known as hip hop. From his leopard print tattoo marks on his right arm, to the many quotes marked on his body; he is single handedly showing that you should never judge a book by its cover. With such a versatile talent, Phil is ready to take on an industry filled with politics and greed by staying true to himself before anything else. He hopes to change the simple minded views that some may have of a hip hop artist and show that with a college degree so much more can be accomplished through intellect, wordplay, and message involving flows.

Phil The Thrill - Exhale

350x500philUrban Steez: Tell everybody your name and what area you represent?

The name is Phil The Thrill and I represent Newport News, Virginia 757.

Urban Steez: How did you come up with your music name?

Phil: It's funny because it's not just a "music name" it's my actual nickname from childhood. Growing up playing sports it was a name given to me from playing basketball when I was a kid and stuck with me throughout high school and even into my college bball days so it's a part of who I am.

Urban Steez: So sounds like you can do a thing or two with the rock!! How long have you been doing music and what made you get into music?

Phil: I have been doing music my whole life but on a serious note for little over a year now and the realization that I could be heard and impact people's lives is what really made me want to get into it.

Urban Steez: That’s Wassup! How would you describe your style and why? And what do you feel you can bring to the table as an artist?

Phil: I would say that my style is uncanny and versatile. I bring a variety of things to the table as an artist. Nobody can and will never be able to categorize the type of music that I make because I am always expanding.

Urban Steez: If you had to pick which label to be signed to what would it be and why?

Phil: The label that I would love to be signed to is G.O.O.D Music with Kanye. The way he supports his artist and puts them in the position to win is always a good look for any artist and they all seem to still be able to have their own creative outlets.

Urban Steez: Nice. What's the biggest challenge you feel you face as an artist?

Phil: The biggest challenge I face as an artist is trying to expand my music to be heard to an even broader audience. Even with internet these days it is still hard to create a buzz and it does not happen overnight.

Urban Steez: You got to be consistent for a very long time. It’s a process but we all know it can be rewarding. Who would you want to collaborate with in the music industry and why?

Phil: Somebody I would want to collaborate in the music industry is Coldplay because their music to me is what I like to call "timeless music." Everything they make is still relatable and I feel that our sounds would complement each other.

Urban Steez: Yea good stuff! I can vibe to Coldplay with the best of them. So how do you feel you rank against top music talents today? And why?

Phil: I feel like when it comes to music I can rank up against anybody doing it because I know the work that I put into it to give people my best possible music that I can make.

Urban Steez: I hear that!! What are you working on now and when can fans expect to hear more from you?

Phil: Right now I am currently wrapping up my next EP entitled (s)Ample Time and fans can expect to hear that in mid July.

Urban Steez: All I know is that I better be one of the first to get that EP. Give us a quote, the best represents what you are about?

Phil: "Doing what I can do, while I can do it"

Urban Steez: Good Stuff!! Who and what are your influences?

Phil: Music and the people that tell me they enjoy and relate to my music are my influences. Knowing that I can tap into people's lives in a positive way is what keeps me motivated to keep going.

Urban Steez: If music never existed what do you think you would be doing?

Phil: I probably would be a painter or doing anything artistic. Art is a passion and love of mine so it wouldn't stop at just music.

Urban Steez: That’s Wassup!! What do you think of the hip hop/ music world right now?

Phil: I feel like hip hop/music is in an evolving stage right now. Everybody is on the push to be that next star or icon so I feel like people are trying to bring their best music to the front table.

Urban Steez: What music do you have playing in your sound system right now?

Phil: Playing in my sound system right now is a lot of Bon Iver, Coldplay, and Kanye West. Those are usually in rotation year round.

Urban Steez: Good lil rotation you got going on… Who is your celebrity crush?

Phil: I don't really have celebrity crushes but if I had to pick one then it would have to be Miss Keri Hilson.

Urban Steez: She’s a Badd one!!How can business heads and fans contact you in the future (MySpace, email, number, etc.)?

Phil: People can contact me via twitter.com/philthethrill21, philthethrillmusic.tumblr.com, and youtube.com/user/philthethrill21.

Urban Steez: Any shout outs?

Phil: Shout out to any and everybody that enjoys my music for the art that it is, my media team Revo Media and last but not least Urban Steez good looking out.
