Ralphy Boy's music is his way of drawing a picture with words. Born the son of Haitian parents in the East Flatbush section of Brooklyn and although growing up in such an ill neighborhood Ralphy Boy was able to be expose himself to different environments and cultures which allowed him to pick up different talents and crafts such as sketching, photography but more importantly music. His choice was not only a way for him to be his own man and escape his father's shadow but also as a way for this once shy young man to break out of his shell and express himself without any limitations. Although, the inspiration has been a part of him throughout, it wasn't until the sudden death of his father in 2008, when Ralphy Boy decided to take his music career more seriously. After numerous leaks and music videos including the fan’s favorite "Get It", Ralphy Boy independently released his first project entitled "Hear Me, Feel Me" as a free digital download. He is currently working on new music.
Location: Brooklyn, NY (Flatbush)
Ralphy Boy - Get It!
Urban Steez: Tell everybody your name and what area you represent?
I go by the name of Ralphy Boy and I represent the Flatbush area of Brooklyn, N.Y.
Urban Steez: How did you come up with your music name?
Ralphy Boy: After a few horrible names which we will not get into, HaHa! I wanted something that represented me and what better than my actual name Ralphy and the Boy just represents the energy, the passion and the fun I try to bring.
Urban Steez: That’s wassup! How long have you been doing music and what made you get into music?
Ralphy Boy: I’ve been doing music since about 13 years old but not seriously until a few years ago right after the death of my father who actually was a professional painter. As far as art goes I had a lot to live up to so I chose music as my own way to create art without being linked back to my dad.
Urban Steez: I can dig that. How would you describe your style and why? And what do you feel you can bring to the table as an artist?
Ralphy Boy: I really just do whatever I feel but I’ve been told by many that my music is Alternative Hip Hop. I don’t know what sub genre of Hip Hop that is, but I’ll roll with it. As far as what I bring, I just bring honesty and give 100% every time. Hopefully, when the people listen to the music and watch the visuals they will see that.
Urban Steez: If you had to pick which label to be signed to what would it be and why?
Ralphy Boy: That’s a tough one but If I would choose I guess I would choose G.O.O.D. music just because of the different hip hop artists that are on that roster that I feel are relatable to the majority of the world more than any other Hip Hop label.
Urban Steez: What’s the biggest challenge you feel you face as an artist?
Ralphy Boy: My biggest challenge as an artist is pleasing every listener. I wish everything I put out can be embraced the same way but I know it won’t, I just want everyone to know that I put in the same amount of thought and effort in everything.
Urban Steez: That could be the most challenging thing every artist face.Who would you want to collaborate with in the music industry and why?
Ralphy Boy: Collaborating with Mos Def is on my wish list and the reason for that is because he is hands down my favorite Hip Hop artist.
Urban Steez: Mos Def is a definite Good Look! So how do you feel you rank against top music talents today? And why?
Ralphy Boy: If it’s up to me It’s only right for me to say I rank at the top but it’s not up to me to judge that, it’s up to the listeners and fans. I just focus on trying to get better and challenging myself to take the art to the next level.
Urban Steez: I hear that. What are you working on now and when can fans expect to hear more from you?
Ralphy Boy: Well, right now I’m getting ready to release a new video for the song entitled “Peep Game” on my project “Hear Me, Feel Me” which is available now for free download via Bandcamp. Also, I’m working on my new project so, be on the look out for that in the near future.
Urban Steez: Good Deal. Give us a quote, the best represents what you are about?
Ralphy Boy: “I’d rather be hated for who I am than to be loved for who I am not.” Don’t know who said that exactly but that is something that stuck with me the minute I heard it.
Urban Steez: Im going to have to put that on my Facebook.. Who and what are your influences?
Ralphy Boy: My life experiences, the life experiences of others, relationships, art, film, literature and other music sums up what influences me as an artist.
Urban Steez: What do you think of the hip hop/ music world right now?
Ralphy Boy: I personally think music is fine. I hardly watch television and listen to radio so I am not force fed. I get to watch and listen to what I want so there should hardly be any complaints due to the fact that the people sort of have a choice in this so called digital era.
Urban Steez: Yessir. What music do you have playing in your sound system right now?
Ralphy Boy: I have my regulars that I always listen to, just to be safe but right now I’m rocking to Kendrick Lamar, Dom Kennedy, Mike Snow, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Raekwon, M.F. Doom, Dr. Dre. I’m all over the place when it comes to what I choose to listen to.
Urban Steez: Yea Kendrick Lamar and Dom got the West Coast poppin over here.. Who is your celebrity crush?
Ralphy Boy: I’m really crushing on Scarlett Johansson. There is a reward for anyone out there that can get this to her. HaHa!
Urban Steez: Lol.. How can business heads and fans contact you in the future (myspace, email, number, etc.)?
Ralphy Boy: I can be contacted at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. all business inquiries should be sent to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
Urban Steez: Any shout outs?
Ralphy Boy: Shout out to Brooklyn and New York as a whole. Most importantly, Every single person who supports me. Much Love! IT’S RALPHY BABY!!!!!
