Urban Steez: Tell everybody your name and what area you represent?
Rashondra Angelle, representing eastside Long Beach!!!
Urban Steez: LONG BEACH is in the Building, So how long have you been doing music and what made you get into music?
Rashondra: I have been singing since I was nine years old. When I was a child I would stay in my room all day afterschool and sing. It felt liberating to me. Music has always been around me.
Urban Steez: How would you describe your style and why?
Rashondra: I would describe my style as conscious soul music. My music is rooted in the same passion that my predeccessors shared and speaks about social and interpersonal issues that many can relate too.
Urban Steez: If you had to pick which label to be signed to what would it be and why?
Rashondra: If I had to pick a label to be signed to it would be Hidden Beach, because they allow their artist to flourish as individuals. Also, I think I would fit in very well there because they have an eclectic blend of soulful artist which allows each artist to cater to their particular fan base.
Urban Steez: Who would you want to collaborate with in the music industry and why?
Rashondra: I would love to collaborate with Lauryn Hill, Maxwell, Raphael Saadiq, Timbaland, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Quincy Jones, Brandy, and Janet Jackson just to name a few. I would love to work with these artists and producers because they are innovative and have created a signature sound.
Urban Steez: I can see you get down with all of them, now Timberland and you would be interesting!! I love the voice, do you write your own music? If so, What are your inspirations?
Rashondra: I give thanks for the compliment… Yes, I write most of my songs, although I may collaborate with other song writers from time to time. The inspiration comes from personal struggles or triumphs. Also, I’m inspired by what I see others endure.
Urban Steez: That’s Wassup!! What are you working on now and when can fans expect to hear more from you?
Rashondra: Currently, I’m rehearsing with my band for my performance at The Key Club in Hollywood May 17th. Also, I have been in the studio working on my debut album which should be complete by summer.
Urban Steez: Niiiiiiice, looking forward to the soulful sounds of Rashondra Angelle. Where do you see yourself a year from now?
Rashondra: A year from now, I see myself selling my album and touring all over the world with other artist.
Urban Steez: Who are your influences?
Rashondra: Some of my major influences are Jill Scott, Lauryn Hill, Marvin Gaye, Floetry and Janet Jackson, Langston Hughes, and Assata Shakur.
Urban Steez: That’s thorough lineup right there, I likes…What do you think of the hip hop/ music world right now?
Rashondra: I think the music world needs to be more conscientious. I believe that many of the major artists are not thinking about how their music affects our youth. Moreover, I believe that too many artists are addicted to the lifestyle and money which hinders them from staying true to the derivation of hip hop and soul music.
Urban Steez: I agree, music has a HUGE influence on the youth! What do you think you bring to the music game as far as your music is concerned?
Rashondra: I think I bring SOUL, passion, and honesty back to music. I want my music to set a mood and tell an honest story with every tune. I make music that people can FEEL.
Urban Steez: What music do you have playing in your sound system right now?
Rashondra: In addition to my own, I’m listening to Curtis Mayfield, Dwele, Brandy, and Day 26(I’m a sucker for male r&b groups, lol).
Urban Steez: Lol its all good!! Curtis Mayfield , a musical legend! I can dig that!! Who is your celebrity crush?
Rashondra: Boris Kodjoe and Bob Marley( I feel his spirit).
Urban Steez: Cool…How can business heads and fans contact you in the future (myspace, email, number, etc.)?
Rashondra: Please check out my website www.rashondraangelle.com , add me on myspace, and follow me on Twitter or e-mail me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
