At just eighteen years old, Tequan Richmond is on his way to becoming a household name. Tequan first won audiences over in his breakout role on The CW's Everybody Hates Chris, playing Chris Rock's adorable kid brother "Drew Rock". Since starring on the top rated sitcom for over 100 episodes, Tequan continues to make his way into our weekly prime time line up by guest starring on TV shows such as Private Practice (ABC), Detroit 1-8-7 (ABC), Love That Girl(TV ONE), Weeds (SHOWTIME) & more.

In addition to acting, Tequan has finally decided to share his musical talents with his fans using the moniker "T-Rich". The "T" originates from his first initial and the "Rich" comes from his last name "Richmond'.

Urban Steez: Tell everybody your name and what area you represent?

My name’s Tequan Richmond and most people know me from playing Drew on Everybody Hates Chris. People who don’t know me as Tequan probably know me as T-Rich, a nickname I use with my music. I’m originally from North Carolina but I now live in Los Angeles.

Urban Steez: How did you come up with your music name?

T-Rich is a shortened version of my real name. I took the “T” from Tequan and the “Rich” from Richmond.

Urban Steez: How long have you been doing music and what made you get into music?

T-Rich: I’ve been seriously doing music for about four years now. I was first inspired by The Temptations and their song “Imagination”.

Urban Steez: That’s Wassup!! How would you describe your style and why? And what do you feel you can bring to the table as an artist?

T-Rich: My music definitely has a hipsters feel to it. People compare me to Drake and I understand that because we’re so similar. I’ve heard so many comparisons to be honest, but hopefully one day it’ll get to the point where people hear my music and say “Oh! This is a T-Rich song” and I’ll have developed my own brand/sound. As an artist I feel like people are able to vicariously live through me. I’m just a guy from North Carolina who got an opportunity of a lifetime and ran with it. I bring the Hollywood dreams we all had as kids to life.

Urban Steez: Nice. If you had to pick which label to be signed to what would it be and why?

T-Rich: I’d say Atlantic Records. With Atlantic I feel they would understand my vision and give me creative control. Being able to control my sound/direction and stay authentic to myself is very important to me.

Urban Steez: That should be the most important thing with something you are passionate about. What’s the biggest challenge you feel you face as an artist?

T-Rich: My biggest challenge is getting people to look past the fact that I’m an actor and respect me as an artist.

Urban Steez: Yea, if artists can be actors then why is it more harder to convert the other way around? Just let that music keep speaking for you!! Who would you want to collaborate with in the music industry and why?

T-Rich: Drake is at the top of my list because like I said early we have so many similarities and I believe we’d make a classic together.

Urban Steez: That would be interesting to see, I think it would be dope. So how do you feel you rank against top music talents today? And why?

T-Rich: It’s not a competition for me. I’m just doing what I love to do. Honestly, I think all the newcomers all unbelievably talented and bringing something fresh and new to the table.

Urban Steez: What are you working on now and when can fans expect to hear more from you?

T-Rich: I’m working on my third tape, “The Varsity Jacket Mixtape” and I’m releasing it in June. It’s going to be crazy. I think it’s my best work yet.

Urban Steez: Swing that mixtape our way as soon as it drops!! I already heard a few cuts and it was nothing but fire! Give us a quote, the best represents what you are about?

T-Rich: “Death Before Dishonor”

Urban Steez: Loyalty is everything! Who and what are your influences?

T-Rich: Pharrell & Kanye West.

Urban Steez: What do you think of the hip hop/ music world right now?

T-Rich: I think we’re going through a rebirth. Hip Hop’s really evolving right now. It’s a new era of great emcees and I’m glad to be a part of it.

Urban Steez: Most Def!! What music do you have playing in your sound system right now?

T-Rich: Mac Miller & Wiz Khalifa.

Urban Steez: Two Pittsburg artist getting it in, I remember when they came out with their first mixtape. Who is your celebrity crush?

T-Rich: Paula Patton.
