Will Profit, a native of North Carolina, has been rapping since he was 17 years old. Along with his cousin, D.C., they started the group, “Concrete Gang.” They later added artists G-R and Pittsburgh AtomiK. The group released their first single “Killas on my Side” and was featured on Fast Eddie’s ‘Chairman of the Hood’ Volume 1 Mixtape. With success on their first single and over 100 recorded songs, things looked promising for the group. Unfortunately, the group was not so “concrete.” The four members decided to go their separate ways and work on solo careers. Now, Profit is still making his way in Pittsburgh, PA. Collaborating with former Concrete Gang member, AtomiK, Will has recently released his newest video “Addiction.” The two are also gaining exposure in Pittsburgh and online for their freestyle of “Say Yeah,” by the Steel City’s own Wiz Khalifa. Will Profit may not be a household name yet, but with great solo hits and collaborative work it won’t be long until you are hearing his name.

Urban Steez: Tell everybody your name and what area you represent?
Will Profit, I represent Pittsburgh, PA (412)
Urban Steez: How did you come up with your music name?
Will Profit: I came up with the name because my first name is Will, and I like the profit, and in any situations I will make a profit, whether it’s the street, music, a job, or whatever.
Urban Steez: That’ wassup! How long have you been doing music and what made you get
into music?
Will Profit: I been writing music for 5 years. 3 years ago I just started to take it more seriously. I feel that I am a very influential person and my story relates to a lot of people. Music has always had a part in my life.
Urban Steez: How would you describe your style and why? And what do you feel you can bring to the table as an artist?
Will Profit: My rap style is very unique. I have a smooth, lay back, catchy flow. I am not one dimensional, my style is very versatile. I can cover a wide range of topics. Some artist are one track minded and can only rap about on specific topic, and that type of music starts to get redundant. I can bring versatility, swag and fresh new ideas to the table.
Urban Steez: Yea I can dig that! If you had to pick which label to be signed to what would it be and why?
Will Profit: If I had to choose I would pick a independent label like Koch Records. I am really leaning to towards a distribution deal, but If I had to choose a label it would probably be Atlantic Records. They have a lot of hot artist that I will like to work with.
Urban Steez: What’s the biggest challenge you feel you face as an artist?
Will Profit: I feel that promotion is my biggest challenge, for the simple fact everybody and their mom raps. There is so many weak artist in my area it is hard to get recognized. You got rappers that just want to rap and not understand the business aspect and put the work in. The artists in Pittsburgh have little discipline or none at all.
Urban Steez: True, true, promoting your self and getting your music to be heard above the rest is the MAJOR challenge when it comes to the hip hop scene. Who would you want to collaborate with in the music industry and why?
Will Profit:I will like to collaborate with Lil Kim, Cam’Ron, Missy Elliot, 50 cent, and Eminem just to name a few. To me they brought fun to Hip-Hop, and they all got classic albums.
Urban Steez: Killa Cam was my favorite rapper at one point.. So how do you feel you rank against top music talents today? And why?
Will Profit:I feel I stand a good chance against them for the simple fact the music is getting boring it’s the same repetitive feel. The music seems like it about getting money whether than just having fun, and relating to your music. Everybody don’t have a million dollars in the bank.
Urban Steez: LOL I hear that! What are you working on now and when can fans expect to hear more from you?
Will Profit:I am currently working on a mixtape with a local artist, Pittsburgh Atomik called “Almost Famous.” While I am doing that I am also working on my solo mixtape “I’m Kind of a Big Deal.”
Urban Steez: Niiiiice! Where do you see yourself a year from now?
Will Profit:With the right promotion I see myself signed to a independent or major record label, just got to put the pieces to the puzzle together to get where I want to go. I try to make sure every day I get a step closer to
my goal.
Urban Steez: Who and what are your influences?
Will Profit: My influences are my mom, my girl, and my little brother. They keep it straight real, they don’t care if it hurt my feelings or not. They tell me if it sound good or not, I ask what is it on a scale to 1-10 and if it’s not a 10 then I will scratch it and make it into a 10.
Urban Steez: You NEED family in your corner at ALL TIMES… What do you think
of the hip hop/ music world right now?
Will Profit: I think the industry right now is phoney. You got artists trying to imitate another artist. I feel that there is no originality except for a selective few that already been in the game, and earned their keep.
Urban Steez: Unfortunately, It’s like that in many cases, but I blame the guys in the suits because they want to determine what sells these days. Thank Goodness for internet!! What music do you have playing in your sound system right now?
Will Profit: I listen to a lot of genres of music. I do not listen to one specific artists, when you start listening to the that one specific artist all the time, you find yourself sounding like that artist in your music not intentionally, you just listen to that artist too much. Personally I rather listen to myself.
Urban Steez: Who is your celebrity crush?
Will Profit: I cannot think of anyone off top.
Urban Steez: How can business heads and fans contact you in the future (myspace, email, number, etc.)?
Will Profit:myspace.com/willprofit , facebook.com/willprofit , thepittsburghpulse.com
Urban Steez: Any shout outs?
Will Profit: I will like to shout out to Pittsburgh Atomik, My little bro Wes Loc, My mom dukes, Jon Furman, Andy Pollack, my girl, and Urban Steez for giving me the opportunity for this interview.
Really proud of this trio, stay true ...
