Kamèl (pronounced - Kah • mel) If you haven't heard of her yet, guarantee it is only a matter of time before you will. Kamèl is a self motivated ball of fire that has everyone talking. She has gained great respect for her hard work and dedication day in and day out, both here in the States and overseas. Based out of Ohio, this sensuous songbird has a soothing sound with an undeniably beautiful look, but do not be fooled, this diva has major energy, attitude and spice to deliver a slammin' performance. Driven by passion and blessed with incredible musical ability, this multi-talented beauty is determined to make her mark in the industry; as she not only sings, but also writes and arranges all of her songs, acts & models. Her creativity constantly amazes the producers she works with, as she naturally becomes one with the music and scripts. They quote, "She is definitely slick with it and extremely easy to work with." Sure she can speak of how the talent of Anita Baker, Whitney Houston, Marvin Gaye, Luther Vandross and many more, have had influence on her career; as they have, but her greatest inspiration comes from her own mother and father. Her mother danced and shared the stage with icons such as: The Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Dionne Warwick and even performed in front of Dick Clark; while her father was locally known for leading a Rock band that performed sensational live shows. So you guessed it, she too fell in love with music and entertainment. Has it always peaches and cream, happy go lucky for this rising star? Absolutely not, but it was the times of having only beans & rice and community cheese to eat growing up day after day, being in a controlled, mentally abusive relationship, and the emotional ups and downs of life that fuel her energy and strength today. Initially, Kamèl was working with other artist creating hooks, singing background vocals, and arranging melodies for their recordings; then as she owned her craft, she felt it was time to begin a solo career. Since then, she became a member of BMI; produced an independent album; began performing at local clubs, special events, concert venues, and musical conferences amongst artist such as: Michelle Williams, Trinity 5:7, Mr. Del, and more. Kamèl has also been noticed for her leading role in a stage play entitled, "She's got the stuff". It would make you laugh till you cried! Since then, she was recruited as the lead vocalist for a live band that rocked Columbus and the surrounding areas, but her destiny continued to knock. Gaining much attention all over the world for her original material, she knew she had to continue her solo journey and give her fans what they truly wanted to hear; and that is words from her heart. "Kamèl has such a swagger about her," fans quote. "She is extremely marketable and we truly believe it is only a matter of time before the world takes notice. Soon we look up and see her on TV and hear her on all the radios. Trust, it's only a matter of time". One of her greatest qualities that we all have grown to love is her heart. She is such a sweet and energetic person that everyone tends to gravitate towards her; people simply love being around Kamèl. She is also admired for ability to transform. At times she keeps it soft, grown and sexy to compliment her smooth vocals; but other times she rocks the crowd with a blazin' beat, high energy and even throws in a hot rap every now and then. Although she is her own person, look-wise, many tend to say she draws comparison to that of Kelly Rowland. Bottom-line, she definitely has the magic and is mainstream, radio ready. Pop, R&B, Hip-Hop; what more can you ask for? Now if you were to ask Kamèl what artist she truly respects and admires (outside of Alicia Keys), she will tell you Missy Elliott; reason being, she absolutely loves her creativity, multi-talent and abilities. She quotes, "Missy Elliott is not like every other artist out there, she always stands out because she remains unique and true to herself. Her videos you will not forget, her performances you will not forget; and that same quality I want to always possess." Kamèl is loved and admired by many all over the world for her unforgettable face, sweet spirit, remarkable talent, and is positively believed to be the new face/voice of Pop, Hip-Hop & R&B. Kamèl: My name is Melinda "Kamèl" Neal, known as Kamèl representing Columbus, Ohio. Born and raised in Point Pleasant, West Virginia. Yep, that's right, your girl Kamèl is a good ol' country gal!! J Urbansteez.com: How long have you been pursuing a career in the music industry? Kamèl: Hmmmm, I have been in the game for about 8 years, but have spent the last 2 being a serious go-getter; Performing, Recording, Networking and things to that nature trying to make things happen. Urbansteez.com: What were you into before music? Kamèl: Wow, are you ready for this, I worked for the Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections as a WPSII. Bet you never would have guessed that one huh...(laughing) I remember going to work day in and day out watching people doing whatever they had to do to climb the ladder in the company, and although I was being promoted to higher levels in the company, my heart and mind was just not in it; all I could think about was music. Music was the one thing that kept me alive, inspired and motivated inside. I remember rushing home after work going straight to writing and recording on what I had at the time was an 8 track, VS 880 Digital Studio Workstation (Don't laugh (smiling) it got ‘er done (laughing)). I have so many notebooks full of songs, it is crazy (laughing). So you know I had to leave the department and start pursuing my dream full time, non-stop. Urbansteez.com: As an artist how would you describe your style and why? Kamèl: Hmmmm...vocally wise, I would have to say it is hard to put a label on it as I am a blend of different styles. I guess you could Pop with a twist of Hip-Hop and R&B. Why? Because I love to be different, whatever stands out and is away from the norm of what you hear on the radio or see on TV everyday, that is what you will find me doing (laughing). Fashion wise, I am a down to earth girly girl (smile); I love to dress in sexy, yet classy clothing with a sexy heel, but I also like to rock a mean pair of jeans, or fresh sports wear with clean white tennis'; actually I would say that when I rock casual wear, it best displays my personality, fun and playful. I love to have a great time no matter where I am or what I am doing...wheeeewwwhoooo (laughing). Urbansteez.com: That's wassup!! If you had your pick which label to be signed to, which label would it be and why? Kamèl: While I respect all of the major record companies, I must say Def Jam all the way baby!!! (smiling) I would go bananas if they contacted my Management team and said they wanted me aboard. I love everything about Def Jam, their style, great music; I mean lets face it, Def Jam plain outright has a certain swagger about them and it is HOT!! Not to mention, there are many artist under their label that I love and respect to the fullest. Def Jam, it is where it's at!! Hats off to Def Jam!! (smiling and blowing kisses) Urbansteez.com: Who in your future would you want to collaborate with and why? Kamèl: I would have to say Ne-Yo because the songs he writes are so beautiful and romantic. That would be a good look right??!! (smiling) Urbansteez.com: Fa sho, you cant go wrong with Ne-Yo!! What are you working on now, and when can we expect to hear more of you? Kamèl: Currently I am working on an independent debut album in which I hope to release by the end of summer. My management team and I are also working on some modeling and film roles. While music is my #1 love, I also enjoy getting wrapped up in playing the character of another; transforming into someone entirely different, yet remaining myself (talk about fun!! Smiling). Now as far as Modeling goes, I feel it goes hand-in-hand with my music. It's all about image and using your body to sell a product without saying a word, whatever that product may be. From a musical standpoint, you are marketing yourself. I take care of the outer to show what is within in hopes of you purchasing my material. Urbansteez.com: That's wassup! Image is like 85% of record sales these days, yea its obvious you be on that treadmill... lol So, who are your influences? Kamèl: Honestly, as I said in my bio, my mother and father. Two incredibly talented performers with extreme drive and great love for their individual passion. Now as far as performing today, I would have to say Beyoncé is my biggest influence, her performances are Blazin' HOT!! She knows exactly what to do to leave a lasting impression on everybody. hear that!! What do you think of the music world right now? Kamèl: I feel like a lot of the music today sounds the same and has gotten away from what is real. Don't get me wrong, there are artist out there that keep it real like Alicia Keys, Common, Mary J., etc., but the market is saturated with "Bubble Gum". It seems like if you come up with a silly dance or simple one liner's, then you are HOT. I just don't get it! (kind of sad) What happened to music that deals with real life situations that can help people with their daily living or moves you emotionally? I feel like we need to go back in order to move forward. Urbansteez.com: Good answer.... Where do you see yourself a year from now? Kamèl: Touring internationally, filming on the big screen, modeling in top magazines, and launching my own business endeavors. (smiling big) Urbansteez.com: What will you do with your first royalty check? Kamèl: Most definitely get a new ride; that is a must!! J Invest a little, put a down payment on a new home, and you know a girl has to go SHOPPING (laughing). Can you say heels!! (Oh yeah, did I mention shoes are my other love? (laughing))

women!! When you make it big, what car will you first purchase? Kamèl: I would love to have a Mercedes Benz CLK350 Convertible!! It is sleek and perfect for gal like me!! Urbansteez.com: What's in your sound system right now? Kamèl: Seeing as how I love hot, sexy, romantic love songs, J. Holiday is what I am listening to right now. Seeing as how I am very romantic, he also has to know how to romance me and keep a smile on my face as I would do for him - and I'm not talking about boot-leggin' ideas from the internet (laughing), it has to be natural and come from the heart.
