"On stage, if put on mute you might think Red.October
was auditioning for lead of the newest rock group. Musically and lyrically, you
can tell he possesses more than what most hip-hop artists do. You can tell he's
not playing, he wants your undivided attention, whether it be to bust a sweat
on the dance floor or sit with to discuss the woes of the world, and he's not
going to take no for an answer."
Red.October was born and raised in Texas
and graduated from Full Sail in Florida with
an Associates in Recording Arts and a Bachelors in Music Business on Nov. 2007.
Red is a singer, songwriter, producer, and engineer. Since 14 Red has been rappin and producing since he was
15. Born to an Asian pops and a black mother, Red was exposed to many genres of
music at a younger age and both his parents were on the road when
they were in the military performing.
Red currently has a few projects slated for this year.
Stated earlier, though red is from Texas,
Red's sound cannot be generalized geographically, only musically if that. Red
tries to inherit many different elements into his music, yet keep it accessible
and catchy at the same. Doing more than just a step out the box, creating his
own and deadbolt it shut. Ocky is not like them or any of the one hit, one
sided individuals that swamp the music industry. He is Ocky, the Red.October,
and its been a LONG road, and he just begun.

Urbansteez.com Interview with Red.October
Urbansteez.com:
Tell us your name, and what area do you represent?
Red.October: Hey, whaddup, my name is Red.October, rapper, singer,
songwriter, producer, engineer extraordinaire, also known as Ocky! (aw-key). A
few other nicknames dude got is Orange Lazarus, Ockysaurus, RogerKlotz, Ocky
Goodsounds, and the list goes on. I was born and raised in Texas, mostly in San Antonio, but I put it down for anybody who is an avid
listener of compelling, interesting, and unique music; anybody who is creating
and banging music that adds something fresh and interesting to the game.
Urbansteez.com:
How long have you been pursuing a career in the music industry?
Red.October: Both my parents are singers so in the womb I was
destined to create music. I started writing when I was 14 and started producing
beats when I was 15. I didn't have much money and I didn't have a lot of
friends that were into music as much as me, so I did what I could to perfect my
craft; stayed to myself and worked with what I had. I didn't have the luxury of
living in an area that had a lot going on musically, especially the stuff I was
getting into, so I really had to sit down and push myself full force to get to
where I'm at today.
Urbansteez.com:
What were you into before music?
Red.October: When I was hella young, like 4-10 years old, I wanted
to be a video game designer. It was mostly a little kid in love thing, I was
young and it wasn't really real. But when I hit the age of 14, music really
stormed into my life. I was so captivated at a young age to create music, I
knew out the gate I was going to pursue a music career and turn this dream into
a full fledged profession. I recently graduated from Full Sail in Winter Park, FL, one of the best Entertainment Media schools in the
country, with an Associates in Recording Arts, & Bachelors in Entertainment
Business on Nov. 2007. Smarts, drive, swag, talent, work ethic... I can't lose.
Grind always and it's coming to fruition.
Urbansteez.com:
As an artist how would you describe your style and why?
Red.October: My style is unique, fresh, and courageous. It's
different, yet accessible. I'm very diverse in my approach because I listen to
hip-hop, indie rock, electronica, and soul faithfully. I'm not afraid to be
myself on a track and that's what others seem to miss. Anything I do, whether
I'm creating club bangers, mixtape tracks, conscious songs, or some
elctro-indie crooner madness, I go in with the intent to move the listener
physically, spiritually, mentally, etc. That's why classic music is considered
classic; it commands attention and it moves people. That's my goal with
everything I'm involved in.
Urbansteez.com:
If you had your pick which label to be signed to, which label would it be and
why?
Red.October: There are a few labels I'd love to be a part of.
There's Star Trak off top, Decaydance is crazy, I love Kanye West's imprint
Good Music, Downtown Records is super dope, and Vice Records as well. What it
boils down to is finding a label that understands my music, my direction, and
my vision. These labels would help me define my sound instead of alter it, give
me more space to create, and they'd support it 100% because they'd understand
my position in the industry.
Urbansteez.com:
Who in your future would you want to collaborate with and why?
Red.October: I am a HUGE music fan/nerd/fanatic so the list for
collaborations could stretch around the world twice, but I'll keep it to a
minimum. These are artists, producers, and/or bands that I have a grand
understanding of musically and I feel we could make some power music together:
The Neptunes, Kanye, Andre 3000, Chromeo, Kid Sister, Clipse, Timbaland, Lil'
Wayne, Lupe Fiasco, The Used, Dangermouse, Copeland, Justice, John Legend, Big
Sean, El-P, Kenna, Prince, Zero 7, The Cool Kids, The Pack, Kevin Michael, Van
Hunt, Diplo...
Urbansteez.com:
What are you working on now, and when can we expect to hear more of you?
Red.October: I'm working on a lot of projects that are slated to
come out this year. I got my debut album coming out in June '08 titled THE
RAWKOSAURUS which is going to be FAWKIN' CRAZY and a mixtape called Attack of
the Angry Hearts coming out in September; very dark, angry, and disturbing. I
also have another mixtape coming out later in the year called The Mork
Chronicles Vol. 1 which is gonna be lyrically unmatched, as well as a
collaborative mixtape with me and my dudes E'leven & RA called Killin' the
Scene, which is the title of one of my singles off THE RAWKOSAURUS. I'm moving
maaaaan, I'm a workaholic, and I'm a friggin' freakazoid on this music shit!!!
Urbansteez.com:
Who are your influences?
Red.October: Might want to grab some coffee for this one, we could
be here a while. Prince, The Neptunes, Andre 3000, Kanye West, Timbaland,
Chromeo, Weezer, Mars Volta, Led Zeppelin, Van Hunt, Bee Gees, The Used, Lupe
Fiasco, Lil' Wayne, John Legend, Marvin Gaye, Beastie Boys, Gnarls Barkley,
Jay-z, Copeland, Michael Jackson, Margot, Radiohead, Mars Volta, Queen, RJD2,
Arctic Monkeys, Cage, Eminem, Tribe Called Quest, Hall & Oates, King Crimson,
I'm a music nut, seriously, and I don't worry about genre, just as long as the
music moves me, I'm sold and it motivates me to create.
Urbansteez.com:
Yea, let me grab another cup of folders real quick before I ask you another
question..... Here we go... So, what do you think of the hip hop / music world
right now?
Red.October: I think the industry is looking really good right
now. I see a lot of converging of old and new era styles and sounds to create
something fresh and different. I see a lot of gangsta rap sort of going into
hibernation and I see the 90's House Party, "let's get the crowd hype and
have fun", hip-hop style coming back and converging with the new era and
it's a great hybrid. I like how the indie sound is sort of catching the
commercial listeners' ears, and the commercial sound is sounding a bit more
indie than usual. Everybody is trying something different. You got artists
putting out concept albums (Ghostface Killah, Jay-z, Fabolous, Lupe Fiasco),
you got indie artists gaining commercial followings (M.I.A., The Cool Kids, The
Pack, Gnarls Barkley), you got commercial artists with an indie appeal to them
(Clipse, Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, Lil' Wayne, Pharrell), and you got producers
that are shifting their sound into something unbelievable (Neptunes, Kanye
West, Timbaland, Runners, Shawty Redd, Polow Da Don, Danja Handz). It's a
really good look for urban music right now, seriously.
Urbansteez.com:
(phew) That felt like a hundred bars you spit just now, lol!! So, What will you do with your first royalty
check?
Red.October: I'd upgrade my music setup, upgrade my whip, pay off
some loans, hit a couple boutiques and get swaggerific, and put the rest away
and figure out what else to do with it later. LOL, oh and I'd increase my party
budget.
Urbansteez.com:
That's wassup! When you make it big, what car will you first purchase?
Red.October: I'm not a dream car kind of dude. Just something that
runs smoothly and doesn't eat up gas ($3.15 in Texas right now is definitely not shweet). The system gotta
bang enormously though.
Urbansteez.com:
I can dig that!! What's in your sound system right now?
Red.October: Kanye West - Late Registration & The Used - In
Love & Death is in the whip, Lupe Fiasco - The Cool & Cool Kids on the
MacBook Pro, Gnarls Barkley - Odd Couple on the desktop!! DIIIGGG ITTTTTTT!!
Urbansteez.com:
which female in the game would you pursue first and why?
Red.October: My number one will always and forever be Rosario
Dawson. Talk about wife to the death status. Nikki Jean, Rachel Bilson, and
Gabrielle Union can also hold my heart too. Get to know me baybeh... be one with
the Ocky. :-D
