When you think of Richmond, California you think of the ghetto, high crime rates and violence. However, creativity and musical ingenious prevails in 20-year-old Alex "Love A.O.K!" Buffington. You may recognize the Producer/Singer/Rapper/Songwriter from Seventeen Magazine, Nickelodeon's Kid's Choice Awards, Source Magazine, or on MTV JAMZ alongside TVT Records' "The A'z" as co-producer of their debut smash-hit "Yadadamean.

Considering Michael Jackson, Timbaland, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, and R. Kelly as musical influences, AOK! Started rapping at the small age of 5 years old, and performing on stage at local talent shows throughout Northern California's Bay Area before he was 10.

"My first time ever performing, I was 7 and it was at a talent show for St. Paul catholic school. That's when I knew I wanted to be a performer" - Love A.O.K! Though he may be a new face and a breath of fresh air to the music industry, A.O.K is far from a rookie as he has been writing and producing music since 1997.

"My dream is to spread love to the whole world through my music. I believe love is music, and in music there's love." - Love AOK!

Urbansteez:Tell us your name, and what area do you represent?

AOK!: AOK! , and I represent the bay area

Urbansteez: How long have you been pursuing a career in the music industry?

AOK!: I have been pursuing music as a career for a little over 10 years now. Since 1997.

Urbansteez: What were you into before music?

AOK!: Man, before the music i was hustlin.....sellin jewelry at school, cuttin grass in the hood (Richmond CA) , makin money for new clothes....you know i had to stay fresh one way or another.

Urbansteez:As an artist how would you describe your style and why?

AOK!: My style is wild....I do a lot of things that MOST artist are afraid to do....thats what makes me so unique...from my style of dress, to my style of music....i do everything to the max, only because i know i am a leader.....I decide what is "cool" and what's not.......I know some people ask me do i think i will lose my street cred by doing the type of music i do. I need them to know that I am not in the music industry to earn street cred, or stripes in the hood. I know I come from a real hood, and my people from the hood know Im a real dude....Thats all that matters to me. ...I do this for the LOVE of music, and the LOVE for people period....Thats why i keep the music main stream/pop. I make music that is fun to listen to.

Urbansteez: If you had your pick which label to be signed to, which label would it be and why?

AOK!: hmmmm what label would I sign to?.......MY LABEL! lol....Man I been doin this music shit for 10 years now...I have come to realize that signing with a major label is not the smartest thing to do, especially if you are REALLY talented....There are so many other ways of getting your music out there now a days...Im not willing to give up everything, and only get a little in return...A label would have to offer me BIG numbers up front, ya dig!!

Urbansteez: Yea, I can Dig that!!! Who in your future would you want to collaborate with and why?

AOK!: My dream is to one day work with Michael Jackson....I believe he is greatest to ever do it! ...he definitely has a big influence on my music.

Urbansteez: What are you working on now, and when can we expect to hear more of you?

AOK!: Man, right now Im workin on a mixtape that will be available on the myspace page in April. Soon after that i will be working on my album titled "Birds & Diamonds" ... set to release this summer! ... You will definitely be seeing my face a lot!..

Urbansteez: Who are your influences?

AOK!: My influences would have to be Michael Jackson, Bone Thugs N Harmony and Timberland.

Urbansteez: What do you think of the hip hop / music world right now?

AOK!: WOW....the hip hop music world?......ITS DEAD!

Urbansteez: What will you do with your first royalty check?

AOK!: My first royalty check would go to my recording studio. Gotta keep the music sounding right!

Urbansteez: Thats wassup, so when you make it big, what car will you first purchase?

AOK!: I gotta cop the Lambo first!!!... thats my baby right there!

Urbansteez: The Lambo is crazy, you get a Lambo and its to word from there, "SEE YA"... So What’s in your sound system right now?

AOK!: Right now Im listenin to THE DREAM album "love/hate", I think it is one of the best albums out right now....The production is amazing.

This guy is rare bred and he's so pure. I'm holding my breath, standing on my tippy toes & sitting on the edge of my seat to see, support and love what he's going to do next. I know whatever he's going to do, its going to be something something you diig. I LOVE AOK! Do you knoooowww?? lol Get a clue man.. he's my bruhhh for life.

wow thats a great interview and ur so talented....... your right the music industry is soooo dead as of now and i agree about major labels cauz thats how most of these artist fall off and half of them never see the money if so the only thing they can AFFORD to buy is a car at the most. smh. It takes hard work & determination to make it in the music industry some people just give up and u suppose to never give up on a dream thats exactly what ur doing not giving up don't let ur talent go to waste cauz ur unique in many ways.
