In the new West coast rap scene, young rap artist Skeme plays a pivotal role. Born Lonnie Kimble, the great nephew of legendary blues singer Howlin’ Wolf, the Inglewood bread rapper boasts “I got three mixtapes out already, keep in mind I’m only 18…” With his well polished street savvy flow, Skeme gives a fresh and new face to the west coast “gangster rap” genre. Considered a force to be reckoned with, Skeme has performed at numerous venues such as The Key Club, The Roxy, The Knitting Factory, and B.B. King’s House of Blues. With tracks from 15(1500), Three-1-Zero(F2D), Van Clayton(Get Large), and E Man(F2D) his last two mixtapes have been nothing short of genius. With lines like “They can’t draw out a plan… so they just keep on tracing” Skeme displays his ability to hold his own lyrically with any artist in the industry today. URBANSEEZ:Tell us your name, where you are from and or what area do you represent? SKEME:I'm from Inglewood, Ca. In particular the eastside of Inglewood. URBANSEEZ:How long have you been pursuing a career in the music industry? SKEME:I started rapping at age 15 and didn't start really recording and trying to be heard until I turned 16 almost 17. URBANSEEZ:As an artist who would you compare yourself to and why? SKEME:Uhm if I had to compare myself with anyone it would probably is TI. I say T.I.P. simply for the fact that he spits his real life the things that he rapped about he was really living out. Also he is almost the best in the south and that's the title that I look for from the west coast. The "king" of the coast.
URBANSEEZ:If you had your pick which label to be signed to, which label would it be and why? SKEME:Probably Interscope or Universal. Those are the two Major labels that I would seek just because of their close ties to the west coast. Plus a lowered price on a Weezy feature wouldn't hurt. (UNIVERSAL HINT HINT) URBANSEEZ:Who in your future would you want to collaborate with and why? SKEME: There's a long list of artists I would love to work with so I guess I'll only name three. One would be Trey Songz dude is dope as hell, probably one of my favorite R&B singers in the game. Lil Wayne because he is arguably the hottest in the game. And last but not least I'd have to say TI just because that was who I was listening to while writing most of the songs for New Season, that's a real inspiring guy. URBANSEEZ:What are you working on now, and when can we expect to hear more of you? SKEME:Right now I'm working on my first album New Season, Pre Season vol. 2 should be in the streets soon(the pre album mixtape). You can expect a lot more of me in 08/09 under the wing of a major label.
URBANSEEZ:What will you do with your first royalty check? SKEME:Man I'd probably end up just saving the first but number two is going to be spent on some crazy shit for moms most likely. URBANSEEZ:When you make it big, what car will you first purchase? SKEME:I've been having thoughts about a Gucci inspired Range Rover. White with Gucci racing stripes. Forest green floors and white leathers is a must. Probably put pearl on the dash instead of wood grain it would make me feel more like a boss. URBANSEEZ:If single, which female in the game would you pursue first and why? SKEME:Noemie Lenoir, she's flawless man. Probably Lauren London right behind her. They're both great. skeme is my nigga! i fuck with this niggas music because like me he can switch it up. he can do a common type track then go into a jezzy type track and it wont sound stupid.
