Martinus Hutcherson began rapping at age 12, when most boys are playing touch football and basketball, Martinus was writing songs. With a penchant for R&B, Martinus quickly found that he couldn't sing. Experiencing the now classic albums of Jay-z, NAS, Snoop Dogg, Outkast, Common, The Roots, etc would turn the young crooning Martinus to the rapping, J. Clear.

Choosing his name because, the twenty-something Taurean describes himself as a versatile lyricist who can touch on numerous topics while maintaining his own identity. On his Debut album with New Bridge Records, LLC. A Man Apart, J. Clear touches on numerous subjects on the 13-track disc.

"(The album) is like a real person. Not happy all the time, not sad all the time. I wanted to show a variety of emotions."

A Man Apart is an album that never loses its pace. Songs like "Who U Ridin Wit" and "Let 'Em Know" are defensive to critics and detractors, while "U got it" is a popular party song. The debut single "Show you off" is a two-step song that encourages men to appreciate there woman and "Show them off". "Show you off" along with "Still Cool, Calm Collective also features Mike Winans Jr from the legendary gospel family.

"A lot of rap artists are killing people on 15 tracks of their album, and on the 16th track, they want to love God. No man hates women all the time. Real people have real different emotions."

So does A Man Apart, an artistic album with innovative production and features from some of Detroit's best artists, a list to which J. Clear can add his name. As an artist who tries to see the good in every situation, J. Clear sees only good coming his way.

"I used to want to be the greatest rapper. I don't want that anymore. I want to be a good businessman in this industry who also makes good music. The future? It looks bright."

JClear is truly the first of his breed; there hasn't been a rapper with the attributes that JClear possess. Lyrically versatile enough to scratch the temples of any faithful backpack sportin' hip hop purist than flip it, and supply the commercial feens with something catchy & clever. JClear can suave it up for the ladies, (as we all know) and keep it street with the best of 'em, plus, with all that going for him, he's not bad to look at. To sum it up, JClear is one of the most well rounded artist to ever hit the scene. The bravery to drop an album, totally opposite of what's Hot right now, J is the quencher for those thirsty for something new & quality.

Urbansteez.com interview with J Clear

Unsigned Hype J. ClearUrbansteez.com: Tell us your name, and what area do you represent?

JClear: JClear, I'm from tha D! Detroit MI.

Urbansteez.com: How long have you been pursuing a career in the music industry?

JClear: I've been at this music thang since I was about 12.

Urbansteez.com: What were you into before music?

JClear: I was pretty much always into music, it's kinda hard not to be being from motown but other than music I was and still a big sports fan.

Urbansteez.com: As an artist how would you describe your style and why?

JClear: Genuine. I try to be as genuine as possible without losing my listeners attention. I understand that this is a business and you are entitled to entertain but I believe there should be some sort of authenticity in your music in order to achieve longevity.

Urbansteez.com: If you had your pick which label to be signed to, which label would it be and why?

JClear: I would rather stay independent but to answer your question. My heart say's Roc a fella or Aftermath but my mind say's G.O.O.D music. Say what you want to say about Mr. West, his track record so far, as far as an CEO is impressive. As far as the ROC,  though Jigga's my guy and he's a great businessman, there are too many complaints about his label running skills and to me where there is smoke there's usually fire. And if I every signed to aftermath my CD wouldn't probably see the light of day.

Urbansteez.com: You heard that Yeezy, go and get at your boy J Clear!! Who in your future would you want to collaborate with and why?

JClear: I'm not really big on collabs, but I wouldn't mind doing a song with Outkast. In my opinion Outkast is the greatest rap group ever. While most acts are afraid to lose there fan base if they stray away from what there none for in the beginning and to be honest in hip hop they should be. But Dre and big boi don't give a damn they just do what they want and some how they actually gained more fans ( real recognize real ). You gotta respect that!
Urbansteez.com: I can second that, outcast by far!!! What are you working on now, and when can we expect to hear more of you?

JClear: I'm actually done with  my album  "A Man Apart" which is due out around the beginning of June.

Urbansteez.com: Who are your influences?Unsigned Hype J. Clear

JClear: Well, motown music played a huge part in my life early on. But when hip hop gotta a hold of me it just took my luv for music to the next level. The rappers that influence me is Outkast, Jay-Z, Nas, Redman, the roots, Snoop, Quik, spice 1, Tribe, common, eminem, Dr Dre, cube, wu tang, Mos def and Talib Kweli .

Urbansteez.com: What do you think of the hip hop / music world right now?

JClear: It is what it is. I'm not exactly excited about hip hop like I used to be. This is not just a shot at the south. The south, east, west, mid west we all need to step it up or it's gonna get unrepairable. If hip hop ain't dead, it's on life support.

Urbansteez.com: What will you do with your first royalty check?

JClear: By some real estate or some stock, depending on how much.

Urbansteez.com: When you make it big, what car will you first purchase?

JClear: I ain't really a car head, but I might get a escalade.

Urbansteez.com: Can't go wrong with an escalade.. so what's in your sound system right now?

JClear: Co Co Brovaz- Rude Awaking.

Urbansteez.com: which female in the game would you pursue first and why?

JClear: I gotta thang for Christina Millian or Esther Baxter and not to mention Lauren London!

Urbansteez.com: Yessir.. Good taste!!! How can fans contact you in the future (myspace, email, PO box, etc.)??

JClear: www.myspace.com/1jclear

Urbansteez.com: ANY SHOT OUTS???

YOU! Thx again holmes!
