There are many different ways to convey talent, sometimes talent is taught, and sometimes others are born with the gift.
As a youth JDP spent much of his time writing. Born on Chicago's south
side, his stories were based on what he has seen and heard. At an early
age his mother instilled the passion for music in him, something he
holds with him to this day. Spending the latter half of his life
outside of Chicago, the artist began writing music at age 13. By 15, he
started his own label and began selling copies of his music out of his
backpack. Unlike other kids, JDP's sole focus was, and always has been...
the music. In 2006 JDP teamed up with partner Jay Torres, to begin Flyy
City Media Group, LLC. Since then the self-proclaimed "future of the
game," has been making steady moves to reach his goal, The Top.
In a time when hip-hop is being scrutinized by many as a dying
movement, its own artists doubt the art form. On the other hand JDP
delivers his own brand of music to the masses. Combining his love of
writing with his love of music, the artist delivers incredible bangers.
Every song is another piece of the puzzle, matching an amazing flow
with humor and intelligence. JDP easily brings out the emotions of a
track, and represents all sides of the spectrum; ushering in what he
calls "Motivation Music." His sound is unique and fresh, and he is what
you call a new voice in Hip Hop! JDP is an artist with the ability to
hit and connect every time he holds a mic, or writes a verse.
In 2007 JDP has been about all work and
no play, and he can show you better than he can tell you. JDP has
already put accolades under his belt including a hit single "Like A
Skateboard," that has received airplay all over the country, as well as
overseas. The song charted in Music Choice and has found its way on
iTunes and numerous mixtapes. A remix to the song is currently in the
works, and features Fly Society artists Hit & Terry Kennedy
(captain of the Ice Cream Skate Team). In June of 2007, he found
himself participating in TheNext.tv's "Making the Next Hit" featuring
Lil Wayne, and also has been the subject of various online magazines
and blogs. JDP made it to the 2nd round of the competition, and
received positive reviews and feedback for his performance. 2007 has
also seen JDP perform with major recording acts such as Rich Boy,
Shawnna, Cap-1 & GLC, as well as gaining songwriting credits for
G-Unit's recording artist Spider Loc.
So what's next for JDP?
With an unparalleled grind
and determination, JDP is poised for great accomplishments. Maturing
his songwriting ability, JDP has worked with numerous up-and-coming
artists in and outside of the Chicago area. The artist has expanded his
talents, by working and writing for R&B artist as well as hip-hop
artist. His collaboration with R&B artist Taylor Mallory "On the
Low," is currently receiving airplay and positive feedback. JDP's
follow up single "I'm Fresh," has already begun surfacing publicity,
scoring a remix with Miami's own Benisour tha Don. His debut project
"Defying Gravity," is still in the works and is planned for a 2008
release. His "Only for the Flyyest," campaign is in full effect with
his Flyy City family, who are steadily making moves as well. The days
ahead look bright for JDP, as he continues to climb toward his goals.

Urbansteez.com Interview with JDP
Urbansteez.com: Tell us your name, and what area do you
represent?
JDP: 3 Letters mayne, JDP. I represent the windy city, Chicago, IL
Urbansteez.com: How long have you been pursuing a career in
the music industry?
JDP: I've been writing since I was 13 years old, but I didn't
seriously consider music until around 16. I use to record mixtapes in my
grandmothers crib on the computer and pack em in the backpack. I started my
first company when I was in high school followed by Flyy
City and since then I've just been grinding man.
Urbansteez.com: What were you into before music?
JDP: Damn, before music I was writing, poetry and shit, short
stories. I just use to write all the time man. That was my hobby when I was in
the house, and I read a lot. I just grabbed whatever was around. I still feel
like I could make a living with just a pen in my hand, I used to act too but, I
couldn't really see myself doing it for living, wasn't as dedicated as I am
with music.
Urbansteez.com: As an artist how would you describe your
style and why?
JDP: New, I like to call it motivation music, I like to evoke
an emotion and make you feel how I'm feeling at the moment. It sounds flyy, I
say that meaning that it sounds new, it sounds fresh, it sounds better then
whatever you heard before. That's what I go for with every song. I like to
experiment and try different things because I feel like that's what doing this
should be about. So if I'm having fun, WE having fun, If I'm somewhere else, WE
somewhere else, you feel it on every record. "Like a skateboard" is
really a song about working to get noticed and how it feels once your noticed
but my delivery is such that when you hear it you feel as good as I do.
Motivation Music.
Urbansteez.com: If you had your pick which label to be signed
to, which label would it be and why?
JDP: I dunno man, its crazy nowadays. Defjam isn't as Hip Hop
smart as it was 9 years ago, that 98'. Koch is an option because they've proven
that they're not just for graveyard acts in my book. I feel like if your music
is good and you can make 7$ off a record then why not? Out of the majors though
its between Atlantic and Interscope/Geffen. Just because I'd feel like I could
do some great things with their type of energy behind me. I told you man, its
crazy right now.
Urbansteez.com: Who in your future would you want to
collaborate with and why?
JDP: It's so many artists I want to collaborate with man. Just
check out my Ipod. It's different because I just don't listen to one type of
music. I use to listen strictly to Hip Hop when I was coming up but nowadays I
listen to whatever inspires me. I'd love to do a song with Jay-Z. That's the
top to me, it doesn't get any higher in Hip Hop, I'd love to do a joint with
Kanye, the man is a genius. Kenna, I really want to do a record with Kenna, I
don't know what it would sound like but I know it would be crazy.
Urbansteez.com: What are you working on now, and when can we
expect to hear more of you?
JDP: I just finished my EP "Elevation" that you can
now purchase on Itunes(shameless plug haha) It's like 7 tracks but I'm
constantly banging out material, the most recent of which I just posted on
myspace "Styrofoam Cups." That record is insane. I'm just prepping
for this full-length project I've been working on called "Defying
Gravity." I'm doing some songwriting for other artists and looking forward
to these upcoming months.
Urbansteez.com: Who are your influences?
JDP: My mother is a key influence on me though. My family as a
whole but my mother inspired me to start doing music. She use to be into
everything, she use to sing/dance/model but she gave that up to raise me. I
feel like I get a lot of my inspiration from her. Every type of music from the
Beatles to Biggie to Dylan's whole catalog. More directly though, Kanye, Lupe,
Jay-Z, Eminem, just great artists influence me to try and reach for that.
Urbansteez.com: Thats wassup, Im a mama's boy to. Shout out to the mama's out there!! So what do you think of the hip hop / music
world right now?
JDP: As far as Hip Hop music, I think its going strong.
They're are so many new sounds, and artists that are doing they're thing right
now. The quality and amount of music hasn't suffered. The problem is that what
we hear on the radio is so monotonous, its gotten boring. People don't want to
purchase records, one because they can download it at the crib, and two, the
albums aren't worth 9.99$ It's gotten so that people need the new dance step to
be able to enjoy themselves. I miss 98-03, it was a time period where
everything on the radio was a different and it was cool. Nowadays its like you
hear the same song 30 times by 2 people, its just not that creative. Just try
harder. A lot of that is the face that the music industry is going through a
rough time but more so the artist who get in it don't really have a passion for
it. They look at the music as a side hustle. But, outside of that, music is
really exciting because their is so much "new" out their and alot of
great music. And with the internet more of it has a chance to be seen, case in
point, this interview. haha.
Urbansteez.com: Lol, Very true.....What will you do with your first royalty
check?
JDP: Buy a big chain and a platinum hub cap.........j/p
probably pay off some debt, buy my mother a nice house. Invest it in something
lucrative, ya dig
Urbansteez.com: When you make it big, what car will you first
purchase?
JDP: Shiiiit, Anything is better then what I drive now.
I think the magnum looks slick, then again so does a jet.
Urbansteez.com: A Jet .... LOL you a fly ass dude!!! What's in your sound system right now?
JDP: I've been listening to Trilla and Ego tripping since they
came out. Both of them are dope albums. One of snoops best, and Trilla is just
the perfect car record. Riding down the I-95 yelling "I'm the biggest boss
you done seen thus far!" Every song fits the record which is what a album
should be.
Urbansteez.com: which female in the game would you pursue
first and why?
JDP: I think Lauren London is bad. Ever since ATL I have been
a FAN. Haha. I'm sort of in love with Erykah Badu, and Beyonce too. I
need like a mix of all 3 in one. Let's just stick with Lauren London for now.
Urbansteez.com: I see, Its something about Erykah I like to, but I cant call it... Anyway, how can fans contact
you in the future (myspace, email, PO box, etc.)??
JDP: Just get at me @ myspace.com/uptopjdp , I
repeat, myspace.com/uptopjdp
Urbansteez.com: ANY SHOT OUTS???
JDP: Shoutout to Flyy
City, my sister Flow-Eazy(one of the sickest female MC's your
gonna hear), 2G, Bartendaz, DC, everyone who supports me and the music, all of my chicago artists, fam and Urbansteez.com for featuring ya boy. Yessir
